I've developed a crack in my manifold. Is it safe to weld it?

Default I've developed a crack in my manifold. Is it safe to weld it?

Hi guys. As the title says, is it safe to go to the local exhaust shop and have the crack in my manifold welded? Probably a stupid question, but I thought I would ask before I messed it up anymore. I just wanna be able to drive the car until I can afford to replace it with a better manifold. Thanks.

what kind of material? either way yes its safe. but if urs is a aluminum mani...go to an aluminum specialist. and if its cast iron, go to a cast iron specialist. cant go to any muffler shops cuz like for example if urs is a cast iron, u have to bake the mani in the oven before u can weld on it or else u will have new crack along side the new weld...

where exactly is the crack? in most cases it is ok, and you should be alright with it for a while...but if it cracks once, most likely it'll do it again

a long time ago when type-r manifolds were the "manifold to run" like back in 97 98 we would cut the flange off a gsr and weld it to the type-r manifold runners to make the type-r manifold fit a gsr head... it worked fine untill it started to crack, fell off at the street races ..lol thought about it and just drilled out the type-r flange to fit the bolt pattern. well im way off the topic but personally i wouldnt weld a crack especially on the hp you are able to make now in days... a maniflold carries a great amount of volumetric pressure.....but then again, if u just need it to drive arround untill u get a new mani.. then its all good...peace
