Default Ironman Strip Series 1680 clutc....Got ?'s...

Well, I just blew out my ACT HDSS CLutch, the thing only lasted 6 months, But I do have a heavy foot. A very respected shop in my area recommended competition clutch. So after I tell him my setup, he suggested the Ironman Strip Series 1680 clutch.

Its a 6 puck sprung disk.

Here's what it looks like.

This is my daily driver, and I dont want some crazy *** engagement and short life. Hoping this clutch will last at least 2 years. This is all going into a coupe with a greddy kit intercooled running 10 lbs.

Now does anyone have experience personally with this clutch. IE drivabilty as this is going into my daily driver? incresed pedal feel? how engagement is Harsh/Smooth? The price wasnt bad at all and I figured I would take a chance with another company.

Thanks in advance

Jon

That thing will destroy your tranny.

ACT XTSS is my recommendation, but I think you should have been fine with the HDSS. You must not have broken it in properly or powershifted all the time - it's good to 223 ft./lbs of tq, which at 10 psi, you're not making.

Dont powershift........I think it was because I got on it all the time!

How good is the ACT XTSS.....Whats wrong with a 6 puck?

Should I not put this clutch in because of my power level?.....Is it bad that I have an aluminum flywheel with an iron disk?

the problem is that sintered iron has a very high friction coefficient, that is, its real rough. It tends to grab and eat away at the flywheel faster than your typical cerametallic clutch.

IMO, i think this clutch is overkill for you setup

We sell and install plenty of these clutches. The Ironman 1680 is a favorite clutch for our turbo customers. Engagement is very smooth considering its a puck disk, obviously the sprung hub does a lot for it. Doesnt chatter too bad either.
I have an ACT HDSS in my beater (i wouldnt ever waste money on ACT, it came with the car) and I hate the pedal feel. CC is the way to go! This clutch will laugh at your Greddy kit at 10psi and last a long time

Well since the clutch is already ordered, I think im going to put it in....THe ACT XTSS was pricey too for what im paying for.

But my main concern now is, will this thing really chew up my flywheel?

Should be absolutely fine SINCE Competition Clutch also sells flywheels and they are aluminum SO they are compatible sir

Any idea how much the increse in pedal feel is? Daily Driving?

Does Competition clutch warranty springs coming out of the hub?

The main reason for getting this clutch is so that it lasts longer......I know that it will laugh at my kit...

they are compatible, hell, all flywheels are compatible. its the fact that these wear the clamping surface faster

Check into Clutch Specialties clutch too before you make a decision. They make an awsome 6 puck clutch for the price. Thats what i have run on my turbo D. Ive run on the clutch for about a year and half and it still grabs like the first week i put it in. The CS clutch uses miba friction pads, which according to the very knowledgable ROCKET, they give less wear and chatter on the flywheel.

If your gonna be driving it hard, which it sounds like you are, i would recommend going with an unsprung hub. I drive my car 30miles to work each way, five days a week, its bearable.

also... i don't think that 6 puck clutches blow trannies in MOST cases, poor driving technique does.

Don't aluminium flywheels have a STEEL mating surface? Maybe it's just me....

You are absolutely correct!!! All the manufacturers who make an Aluminum flywheel have steel mating surfaces from what I have seen.
