internal wastegate + boost controller = what i want? help!
some of you might have read that i just installed an xs engineering kit on my 2001 gsr.
i have a defi boost gauge hooked up. situation is from around spool (2900-3100) to about 6300 i only make 4 psi...then after 6300 i jump to 8 and hold untiil redline. it was my knowledge this turbo hits full boost by a most of 3400-3500 rpm.
i adjusted the wastegate actuator and got no response....i talked to xs-engineering today and they recommended a boost controller...
not too familiar with boost controllers, if i set boost at 8 psi with the boost controller...will it allow me to properly make my goal without this creep/spike??? can anyone refer a simple yet good boost controller?

Re: internal wastegate + boost controller = what i want? help! (yehiknowrite)
I have the same car and same kit but instead of using the xs-engineering fuel system, im using hondata.... which i love. trial user status keeps me from pm'ing you but find me on aim and we can talk. I am having similar issues but instead of a spike.... i just can't get the damn thing above 4.5 psi. Im about to order the Greddy Profec B spec-II and if i get it installed and set up correctly this should solve my problem. I imagine it would solve your problem as well. Keep me updated as to your situation because i am always interested in anything GT28RS or xs-engineering turbo kit related.

My aim is in my profile. Instead of the 550's from the kit im running RC 750's, but i too am using the walboro 255lph. The fix shouldn't be 400 bucks either... I believe you can pick up a Greddy Profec B spec-II for around 200. Either way, i do understand your worries about buying something that won't solve your problem. The fact is the boost controller should fix your problem. There are people who complain about having boost creep and or boost spikes even when using boost controllers.... but that is a problem with the boost controller itself and not with the setup they are using. So i guess what i am saying is that a boost controller is definitely what you need, but i can't promise 100% that you will never have any boost issues after you get it.
I am going with the Greddy because its about half as much as the Apexi avc-r and from what i have read easier to set up and install. When i get it installed i will let you know how it goes and if i have any boost issues.

bump at work
cool man...see to me..its just the wastegate is opening too soon and only allowing the turbo to build 4 psi...and then somewhere in the upper rpm range it closes back up and then runs 8psi and opens again...
so in my mind...the boost controller should only let the wastegate open once it sees 8 psi...
i gess 200-400 dollar is worth it as opposed to saying screw it and getting a new setup...which is an option now...im pretty dissapointed with the little things like this with this kit....first my powerfc didnt work..and now i cant make steady boost
anyone have a definitive answer if a boost controller will fix my issue?

I would definitely stick with your setup for now. With a low compression head gasket you will be safe to turn up the boost to around 10 psi and make good #'s. Not to mention how sweet the GT28RS is. Hopefully a boost controller will solve your problem.
Sorry i can't give a better answer, i guess just consider this a friendly bump for a sweet ride.

im actually running the 320 hp version of the kit...which is a gt28r with a tweaked compressor wheel over a normal gt28r....i love the turbo and the kit is great..its just this boost issue is annoying

Internal wastegates suck... I had nothing, but trouble with mine when I tried boosting more than 9-10psi. I would just get a tial.
