Ok, so Im sitting here on the spearco page looking around. I figure since I want to keep my stock front bumper then theres no need for taller than 6.5" right? Now the length is what I would like to know about. Also the flow rates--I think that I want around 300 hp, and will boost around 12-15 at most.
I was thinking the 2-203 or the 2-208 with a 6.5" height, or even the 2-178 with a 7.8" height.
I would also like to keep the factory front support. So a tall one would be out of the question.
Now for the flow rates and sizes (I want to make it easy on you so you dont have to hunt for part numbers):
2-203 3.5 x 6.52 x 24 Flows 640 CFM
2-208 3.5 x 6.5 x 17.25 Flows 525 CFM
2-178 3.5 x 7.8 x 20 Flows 760 CFM

*NOTE*
Must add 5-6" total for endtanks and probably an additional 4 for piping-so 9-10" total.
Approximate flow rate in CFM means the core will flow the CFM shown with 1.5PSI pressure drop. The core can flow more CFM, but the pressure drop will be higher.

What do you guys think. What do you run, hows it fit, and which one is for me?

i like the XS GTR intercooler. i think for the price it can't be beat. even tho its on the big side, there isn't a noticable amount of increased lag. expect a big temp decrease compared to the spearco ic that comes with most drag/rev hard kits.

Since you are looking at keeping the core support intact , you could choose any of the cores that you listed.

Core # 2-208 will be able to support 300 whp without any problems and will be the easiest to fit since it is the smallest. Core # 2-203 is the core that FMAX uses on their Nissan SE-R turbo kits. This core can support up to 500 whp. The core is a liitle longer than most cores so you may run into length issues! Core # 2-178 is most commonly used in RevHard's turbo kits. This core can easily support 500+ whp. The core is a little taller than the other 2 and may require some ccutting of the bumper, but it is a very efficient core!

Does anyone like the Apex cores? How do they flow, since they have a different design with the angled slats that direct flow into the core. I like the way they look, but seems like they are the only ones that use this method.
I am liking the XS GTR core though, not too bad of a price either.
An IC will be my next upgrade after I install the turbo

I am now running the XS Skyline core and it is big! They are great intercoolers for the money!

ya, they are pretty damn sweet. I got mine for 575 with the end tanks, and am polishing them as we speak

Be warned though - they do NOT fit the 92-95 Civic front's so easily. I had to notch the crap outta my front bumper (now intercooler) support, as well as hack up the bumper. I'll post pics of it later tonight.

I bought a apexi intercooler off the parts trader for $620 shipped and it's brand new. The only thing that i'm dissapointed with is that the end tanks don't come strait off each end tank but angle downward. Am i'm going to be able to make this work or should i just try and sell it and buy one like APEXSER posted? What are the sizes of that intercooler?

On the topic of intercoolers and efficiency ... Does anyone know the specs or max whp before it is plain useess for either the TYPE 24 or 31 intercoolers from greddy. Thanks,

I got mine used from a friend who went full race and liquid/air, so it's not a fair comparison.

What you can't see is how it extends up to the bumper crease, where the bumper starts to turn in to meet with the hood. Note also how low it hangs down beneath the bumper - even with my 5zigen front lip

Hey "APEXSER" how did that cost you? Do they come polished like that? I want to get one for my 99-00 Civic. Does anyone know what modification I will have to do and how hard it will be to install? Also when I call to order do I tell them I just want a GTR Core with endtanks?

john how did you attach your intercooler? are you using some welded tabs screwed onto the bumper support?

I've fitted one in a 00 hatch, it fit with NO modification, grill and all. Lot's of crumple space means extra room for big *** intercoolers I guess.

We fabbed up some brackets, which bolt to existing mounting points on the intercooler. We then had to drill a couple holes to mount it to the bumper/intercooler support. I'll have to get a pic with the bumper off (since I still have even MORE cutting to do) when I get a chance.

This is exactly the look/size that I want. I really dont mind cutting the support at all. You said that it goes up to where the bumper curves towards the hood-thats fine, I will even cut slots/ holes in the bumper to make the cooling effective. I just wanted to be able to keep the factory bumper on it. Im thinking of sending it out and having it anodized black for a total sleeper look too!

They do not come polished! I sent the intercooler to my local polisher to get it done. The intercoolers are about $600.00 or so without shipping!

Is it difficult to polish the intercooler yourself, without taking it off the car. (I know I'm lazy ). Does anyone know any good polishes that won't damage the metal?
