Inline VS Intank fuel pump w/ FMU?

Default Inline VS Intank fuel pump w/ FMU?

Hello guys. Im new to the FI world and I bought a Rev-Hard kit from a friend of a friend... Anyway, it came with a Vortec 12:1 FMU and a Walbro in-Tank fuel pump, now Im worried because and I was doing some searching and Im getting mixed anwsers, my question to you guys, is if it is ok to run the in-tank fuel pump with the FMU or do I need to run an in-line? Im planning to run this set up on low boost untill I can build my motor and get enough for tunning. Thank you in advace for any help.

are you sure its an in-tank pump that came with it??? they commonly come with an inline pump and fmu. and thats what you want. an in-tank pump most likely wont flow enough at the extreme pressures the fmu is demanding.

also i will be the first to tell you to ditch the fmu anyways. chipped ecu, injectors and ems is that way to go.

Thanks for the reply. Yes its an in-tank, and Im eventually going to get tuned on chrome, but the budget is limited as of right now and Im just trying to get this car rolling. I just dont want to mess anything up by running the FMU and in-take fuel pump at the same time.

Do what he said. The FMU needs the high fuel pressure only the inline pump can provide. FMU's are touchy enough, don't risk it with only a intank pump.

If push comes to shove, Ill fork ou the money for injectors and tune, but is there anywhere you guys could recomend for cheap inline fuel pump? I just want the car to run, while Im building another motor. This is not my daily diver, so it wont see too much miles on it untill the build is done.

Airtech makes the ones in the DRAG kit. Many people scrap them so just search the classifieds. I sold mine for like $40 a while back.

dude it will be fine i have a lst ek coup im only runnin 5 pounds on a fmu with a intank walboro it will be fine. just dont runn anything over 7psi. and this is because of lack of funds to tune. but the car keeps up withe evos and sti's and beats stock srt 4s. runs like **** with a fmu tho massivily rich if u got the funds just tune it or chipp it with some injectors and use a base map if u just wanna drive it

riiiiight. so lets think...12:1 fmu at 5psi = 42psi base + 12*5 = 102psi total. a walbro intank is flowing 0 gph at that psi according to walbro. you might get away with it if its a walbro 255HP but other than that you are risking it. also the FMU only controls fuel so what about timing???

my advice, wait and get it tuned right with the bigger injectors and chipped ecu or dont boost yet. if you really must install the turbo setup then pull the wastegate spring or a charge pipe and make sure you see no boost until its tuned right.

Thanks for the replys guys. I think Im going to go with Crome and some 550 injectors. I know the sponsors have some great deals but can you direct me to any other places? My ultimate goal is to build an LS-Vtec set-up at around 350-400 whp. I just want usable street power.
