Default If you've got a T3 turbo on your D..

What's it start to spool up at? Does it hold all the way to redline, and what kind of numbers are you putting down?

thanks

I have a T3 turbo on my D16Y8. It begins to boost at about 2800 rpms and hits full boost (8psi) at about 4000-4200rpms. I still have a stock cat/exhaust so this is holding it back a ton. I am going with a custom 3" system with no cat so I know the spool rpms will change a lot when that is installed. I estimate I will hit 8psi at about 3200-3500rpms with the 3" system. It does certainly hold full boost all the way to redline, even when I had it at 10psi. I don't have any numbers at the moment.

i also have a t3 (.42/.48)...spool-up is about the same...maybe a LITTLE lower rpm. a t3 is a fairly large turbo, really, and if you're running less than 15psi it will certainly not peter out. I believe it doesn't fall out of it's efficiency range until about 22-24 psi.

Anyone here running a .63a/r on their turbo? Is what is trim/a/r and at what rpm do you see full boost by?

Thanks a lot for the replies! I really appreciate it. I think im gonna have to sell the 14b But I know the T3 is the best choice for the D.

Thanks again

I have a .48 A/R turbine with the Stage III wheel trim. The Compressor is .60 A/R with a 60 trim wheel.

Is that a T3 super 60?
Or a T04E/T3 60trim w/ .48a/r. (.60a/r on compressor side w/ Stage 3 exhaust wheel)

How do you like this turbo on your car?

It is not the super 60, just the plain ol' 60 trim T3. I like it a lot for my application because I wanted a turbo that would not only spool quicker than the hybrid T3/T4, but still would be able to stay at maximum boost until redline. On my engine it should be efficient up to about 20psi which is more than I am going to run any time soon lol.

I'm running a T3 super 60 with a stage 2, 42/48 and it seems a little weak. There is really no difference from 6-11 psi. It seems to just be building pressure and not moving anymore cfm. It makes plenty of power at only 6 psi though. All well............

i have one too... I have the OEM version of TurboSedan's... mine is a stage 2 wheel though. It spools up about the same... maybe a tad slower because it's old as dirt. I made 194whp/164tq @ 8-8.5psi with a 2.5" turbo back exhaust system and the afc hack. A/F ratio curve was flat around 12:1. If you get one new... our turbo is pretty bad *** for a street/race setup and is definitely not underpowered.

2 1/2 charge pipes, 30x6x3 spearco FMIC, ported intake manifold, 68mm STR throttle body, ported, polished, 3 angle head with Gude turbo cam, blockguard , STR fuel rail, STR cam gear, 450cc DSM with AFC, BBK 255 pump, B&M FPR, crank scraper , 2 1/4 exhaust with no cat and Flowmaster muffler ....Ummmmm....I think thats it for the engine.

Do you think one of these things is causing me problems?????

From the turbo to the IC I have 2.25" pipes, but that should not matter TOO much. The 2.25" exhaust is slowing the spool and hurting your power quite a bit though I am sure. That huge FMIC is probably overkill and causing some pressure drop. Have you had it tuned at all yet? If not, then you definately should before you complain about the turbo not working for your application.

I was going to go with 2 1/2 exhaust, but I ended up with 2 1/4 for some reason I have no real way of tuning other than the good ole butt dyno. Nearest dyno is about 300+ miles away and I'm not that crazy about that drive in this car. I think it is about as close as it gets with the AFC. I have been for several hundred "test" drives changing settings.
