i think im getting compressor surge with the hks ssq...
ok been doing some reading and what i discarded as "normal operation" may actually be compressor surge. Can someone verify if this is or isnt:
Goin medium speed under low load 0 >= boost <= 5psi i get a blow off that sounds like cha cha cha cha.
>5psi i get a distinct chirp
is this surging or is it normal for the hks ssq? If it is surging will simply adjusting the bolt on the bov fix it? Or maybe i need to run it off a better vacuum source? here is how it is run now:

after more reading apparently this is normal for the hks? i just want to make sure cause it seems like i have a lot of turbo lag i dont reach a full 10psi til like 4-5krpms

"T" the bov off a stronger vacuum source, thr fpr is a much to small tube, go with the brake booster line you'll see a difference and if that doesnt fix it mess around with the bolt, but dont loosen it to much cause ti wont hold boost then

is the brake booster the big line on the top front right of the intake manifold, it goes to where the brake fluid resevoir connects to the firewall(brake booster i assume) right?
doesnt that seem like an absurd amount of lag (current setup)?

money, ill hook it up and see if that cuts the lag, cause right now its pretty laggy, but once i get past 4.5k ZOOOOMMM boost like a ****
would adjsuting the bov bolt cut lag too? if so would i want to tighten it or loosen it? im only running about 10psi (after the creep)

the same thing happens with my greddy type s bov. and i have ALL of my vac sources coming off theline that the fpr is tied into.
i should probably get a vacuum box, however if i did that would i tie it in where the brake booster line is since it's a bigger line or should i just use one of the smaller ones? i dont want to take too much away from the brake booster(not sure if it matters how much you have off of one connection)

as i said also make sure the bov is adjusted correctly otherwise it wont hold boost and leak, making it take longer to reach 10 psi or whatever

are there instructions anywhere on how to adjust it?
Also- will T'ing off thebrake booster reduce turbo lag? How? Or, what would be the advantage of doing this as opposed to the above setup?

turbo lag is caused by the turbo spooling up slowly. Has nothing to do with the bov. The only reason that this is making this sound is because this is a low boost pressure and the bov spring is at a higher tension causing the valve to bounce. Normal for low boost. Also like earlier stated before this can be caused by a poor vac source. Buy a vac manifold or make one. THis way all your vac sources are consistant.

what about adjusting the valve, how do i make it tighter? is that what will ensure bost isnt leaking?
and would having the BOV hooked to the FPR vac cause the FPR to perform poorly?

i said the same, its design shouldn't allow it to leak.
but, we've had them leak above 28psi on a couple STi's.
