Default I no I no, but I have to ask....

Its been asked before, but I want to know if it has a different answer in my particular case:
I have a 1990 honda prelude, 2.0si. My engine is a JDM b20a, nothing special, just a japan replacement engien. I had the block built by golden eagle it has been godzilla sleeved, 84mm bore, aries pistons, & eagle rods. The head is stock. I am going turbo but before I put the turbo parts on I want to run the engine NA for a few thousand miles to break it in. My question is, what oil should I use? I plan starting the engine with whatever oil is suggested and letting it tun for a few minutes so it can clean everything out, then changing it and start putting miles on it. Any suggestions on what kind of oil? Keep in mind the car will be turbo as soon as I break the engine in. Thank you very much in advance.

Engine Break ins MUST be done on NON SYNTHETIC oil.

After your rings are seated ,I.E. 500+ mi. of actual driving, it is "reccomended" that you use SYNTHETIC for a turbo application.

I personally reccomend Mobil 1 tri-synthetic after the break in, 5w-30.

ohh and for all future reference this applies to ALL gas powered motors.

The reason you cannot use synthetic on your break in is that it actually lubricates too well and your rings will not seat properly. Your rings need to "rub" against your freshly honed cylinder walls in order to create a perfect seal.

hope that helps!

Whatever you do, do not use synthetic oil. You will be sending your block back to have it honed again. Buddy of mine was building a 67 camaro for a friend and his friend put in syn. and screwed it all up. He ended up sending it back and getting honed again. Brand new motor.

Use penzzoil or quaker state. Your rings will seat REAL fast. Or maybe that $0.88 cent per quart recycled crap would be even better.

yeah, and just start it, warm it up, change the oil.... start it, warm it up, beat the living **** out of it for an hour or two, let her cool.... repeat. Done!

(theres a whole website on how to break in your motor by abusing it, I don't remember where... but it seemed like a much better idea than the stupid 500mi bullshit!)

yeah, ive heard of stuff like that before. I know tuners who freshly after assembling the motor throw it on the dyno and wrap them up to 9k with like no miles on the motor....

i dont built motors for a living, so i wouldnt know about that, but i broke mine in for 1,500 miles keeping it under 3krpm on petrol based oil....
i use amsoil 10w-30 turbo formulate now.
