air to water ic's are great for drag. Depending on how it's set up, air to air's are generally more efficient for street........and usually less complicated.

but, obviously, you can do whatever you want on your ride.

it would never be. you can get the iat much lower with ice/water.

its just more practical to have air/air on a street car. its much less stuff going on/ less maintence

Well, just keep in mind that temp difference is what moves thermal energy, and with an intercooler, since you're trying to keep the surface of the intercooler or the liquid intercooler's heat exchanger as close to ambient as possible, it's ability to transfer/conduct heat into the air needs to very high. So don't try to use something lame like an oil cooler as the heat exchanger for the liquid setup. More like an extra half size civic radiator with a good pump. (you shouldn't have any real temp difference between the intercooler and exchanger)

I'd also argue that a typically cooled (no freon, ice, thermoelectrics, boost bypass valves) liquid intercooler on the street has slightly higher IATs than a properly sized air/air setup, due to it having to transfer the thermal energy through more ****. In other words, the heat exhanger is slightly over ambient, then the liquid in it is slightly over that, then the liquid intercooler itself is slightly over that, vs the air unit which is slightly over ambient and in direct contact with the charge air. Yeah, this is me overanalyzing it, the differences are really small with a propery engineered setup, but most liquid setups aren't properly engineered. The gmc syclone/typhoon for example comes to mind..
