Default I need some advice on adjusting my GT28RS actuator...

Alright this isnt on a Honda but someone here should be able to help me out. Im running a Garrett GT28RS .86AR on my SR20DET and its boosting around 15 psi. I want it more like 10 psi. I read around and from what I understand that if the rod is longer than boost should be lower. So its screwed almost all the way out and still 15 PSI. I called a few Garrett distributors and they said it should be at around 7.5 PSI stock. When I got the turbo the actuator rod was shorter. I had to adjust it to get it to fit my application.

Any Ideas..

It won’t go lower or less than the amount of psi it takes to actuate the actuator lol. You can get them from atp turbo or phoenix turbo the one I have on my gt2871 which is a lot like the gt28rs is a 4psi actuator and I use a duel stage boost controller to get the boost I want. good luck, its aloha friday bitches!

Well the guy said it the Garrett set factory boost is 7.5 PSI with the actuator I have on it. I know that you cant set them lower than stock. Im just trying to set it lower than 15.

the one that came with mine was a 14psi act. , not good for a stock block and map sensor

I read up some more and I found that on Project Silvia (SCC) they said that the GT28RS .86AR, had 11.5 PSI stock.

you can try unscrewing it more so the wastegate is partially open all the time, this will make it take longer to spool but you wont get as high psi...

yea lol, but i guess the only other possible thing to do would be take the actuator off and send it to garrett and have them fix/replace it

I believe this is the one for the GT28RS. It has the double bend on the actuator arm. It's for 7psi.

My GT28RS boosts at 9psi. Hmmm.....

Does yours have an adjustment? If so how far in or out is yours adjusted?

you can bend them all you want. its not hard to do. if you look at the pics of the turbo in my sig. i bent the rod myself. If your just hell bent on doing it getto style, take the actuator off and put a retention spring on the gate . stiffer spring for more boost softer spring for less boost.

If I bent the rod the boost would become higher because the rod is shorter correcT?

Mine has an adjustment. It came with the Edelbrock Open Track kit for the B16. Out of the box, the actuator rod was half a turn loosened from the fully screwed in position.

I chose to screw it in the last half turn just to decrease the lag. These interal WGs are notorious for starting to open half way before the preset boost.

You can lengthen the rod to lower the boost pressure, however, you'll be increasing the lag as well. When you lengthen it, you open the WG even with no boost on the actuator. The best solution would be a lower psi rated actuator.

Does your engine's ECU control the boost of your car? If it does, it might be holding the WG closed, no matter what, till you hit the ECU specified boost level. Take a look at it from that angle.

No, It had a factory boost controller but I removed it. I went ahead and ordered a 7 PSI actuator from Phoneix Turbo. Thanks man

Hey, how did you bend that acutator rod without heating it?

very careful with vise grips, i put a dye on it first just in case i fucked up the threads, i could just rund the dye over them when i was done. didn't need to in the end, but better safe than sorry.
