300 whp SOHC!?
I am trying to find people who have SOHC's that are putting down 300 whp, which is my goal. My current set up is D16Y8 stock block with crower rods and JE pistons, 20 overbore 9:1 compression, blockguard, p&p head with SS valves crower springs and retainers, crower turbo cam, Clutchmaster 7lb flywheel, UR crank pulley, VAFC, Profec B, FMU, missing link, 450cc DSM injectors, DRAG kit with ball bearing turbo upgrade, bbk 255lph intake fuel pump, 3'down pipe, 3' test pipe, thermal 3' exhaust. MSD 6al, and a bunch of other **** that doesn't make hp. @ 12 psi will I realize me goal. Currently I'm only running 6psi and I haven't made it to a dyno YET.

should've gotten golden eagle sleeves. then you can boost more until you hit 300whp. you pretty much did all the other prevenitive steps except new godzilla sleeves.
it would be nice to see you hit your goal at 12psi, but i don't think it's going to be possible. but i do wish you best of luck.

that sounds like a good motor. i would also say get it sleeved by golden eagle. That would make it safe enough to get u there without breakin somethin. Oh yea get it to a dyno soon so we can find out if you made it. Good luck

Re: 300 whp SOHC!? (Hatchblack)
Sorry Bro,
But to hit 300whp you are going to need sleeves, and 12psi on that kind of compressoin is NOT going to get you there.. i just recently sent a block to VIREN to have it sleeved at Golden Eagle ...
I can tell you this now, i have all the stuff in my sig+a full sheet metal intake manifold and a fully done ferrea head, and i made 269whp a@ 15-16psi.
currently am am running 18psi, so i would say that i am in the 275whp range...it is fast as *****,but i know any day now that i am going to blow a sleeve(stock sleeves) , so that is why i have a 97 d16y8 block going out to receicve that all the goodies...and i plan to make 350-400whp, on about 20-28 psi..
i know it can be done!!!
SOHC POWER!! i also know that i could have easly have gotten about 400whp by now out of a DOHC ,but no thanks (i know sombody will ask me why i spent all this money on a SOHC!)
Just go for it..
Happy Boosting.
Brian

yah 300whp in a sohc will take a lot. sleeves, rods, pistons, 20psi and a standalone+good tuning pretty much. talk to VTC_boost-less_CiViC. He's aiming for 400whp or close to it.

my goal is 250whp by next summer on a d16y7 w/ T3/T04e......i'll see, I haven't built yet, I might just swap instead of building a massive SOHC, better for daily driving. But i don't know yet. A 12 sec DX would be pretty cool

Re: 300 whp SOHC!? (CzanSOHC)
My car is in the shop now, my hood pins weren't locked and flew up and shattered my windshield and dented my roof. Anyway, a full paint job and FI carbon fiber hood is in the works, hopefully in December I'll be able to make it to a dyno then i'll post with all the info.

Another prob, you are going to have is that damn Crower cam!!
those things are junk, and i almost bet you that if you dyno with the stock cam it will make more power!!!
you should have done a little more research ,and you would have found that the ZEX cam is the best right now for the SOHC vtec motors....hands down!!
You win some and you lose some,
Brian

You'll never get there on 12psi I can tell you that right now. You'll be lucky to see 250whp, and I'm only giving you such a liberal number because of the fact that this is from a T3/T04. BTW I didn't see any kind of standalone, did you really expect to ride the FMU to 300whp with the kind of boost your gonna need? IMO, ditch the FMU/Missing Link/VAFC, and turn that money into a Hondata and get it tuned properly. You'll be amazed how much power a good tune can free up in a boosted motor.
I'm sure the pistons and rods will be ok, as for the BG, ehh.. I know Liam has pushed ALOT of boost on the stock sleeves with a BG in place, I suppose if you tune the car just right you can probably stave off any issues, but I'm not so sure how long those sleeves will last at 20psi. I mean Jinx did push 400whp on stock sleeves i his B18C which uses the same sleeve material as the D-series, but I do belive the B-series sleeves are a touch thicker than D-series.. either way it'll ultimatley come down to tuning.
And BTW, expect 15+psi+ for 300whp.

p.s. dave i will no longer be bugging you to buy your block

I have the JG cam and love it. I noticed a difference for sure although I never dyno'd to get exact number. I have also heard the Zex cam is good.

Re: 300 whp SOHC!? (ladysman)
So are you saying that you have butt dynoed it???
come on bro, you know that that is no way of testing things...
what i am saying is that yes the cam could make the car feel stronger, because it made about 5-10ft lbs. more torque ,but the WHP could have fallin off by as much as 10-15.....
bolt on torque will make the car feel alot faster on the BUTT DYNO........
The way i look at it is like this........everything i have seen that comes out of JG is junk.period!
look at all of the customers that have mile long complaints about them, and they simply just sit back and do nothing!!!
To me customer support is very important...
I PERSONALLY WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM JG!!!!!
Sorry for the rant,
Brian

Re: 300 whp SOHC!? (TurbodCX)
you would be surprised on the power of the sohc. a person here in philly had a stock si motor from a 91 crx getting sprayed with a 125 shot.
just needs the right tuning man.
the axles blew before the motor and tranny.
car had 80G miles

I am in the process of finding a stock dy block to send out have it sleeved, But I think i'm going to use Darton rather that GE sleeves. But what I understand I should be able to make the goal of 300 at 15psi.

Just out of curiosity.. Any of you guys running a resleeved 1.8 SOHC ? Is that even possible ?

Re: 300 whp SOHC!? (POLLO)
Just because everyone else is bragging about their plans for D series power domination.... ....
I am going to be using a ZC (DOHC ) for my run at 400WHP.
I am sleeving the block out to 78MM (1.7 liter) and will be running a CR of 10:1 with custom made JE pistons (moly/ceramic coated). Crower rods. Stock crank, but micro polished and cryogenic treated.
Precision SC32 turbo
Custom equal length manifold
Boosting 24-26psi at the track with no nitrous.
Stock intake manifold (ported and pollished however)
Stock TB (ported by RC)
Stock cams
Head fully reworked with cermaic coating, and new valves, P/P...ect.
(many many parts not listed )
I am right on schedule for the project to be done next spring.
