I need help asap. My turbo has oil in the down pipe
I have a big problem I finished installing my turbo kit on my 1994 integra ls with a b20 swap. Its a turbonetics t3t4, when I started it up I noticed a little smoke well I thought oh its a new kit it will go away so I ran it for 10 minutes and it only got worse. well I took the down pipe off and there was oil on the flange and in my down pipe. I am very new to turbochargers but um my instincts tell me that there really shouldn't be oil in the exhaust side off the turbo. This turbo has never been ran and the only thing that I can think off is that maybe I taped the pan to low for the oil return line because when I took the return line off oil started draining out of the pan. And I was thinking maybe it backed up the whole system. Could this be the problem? Or what else, is the turbo bad. Its not alot of oil but just enough . Please help.

the bung is too low in the pan, causing the oil to back up in the turbo and it blew the seals, congrats, you now need a rebuild

you didnt blow the seals the oil just pass through them. Fix the return bung and you'll fix the smoking problem.

I have asked the Greddy tech department this question before.
If your return line is too constrictive (for any number of reasons), oil will blow past the seals. This does not mean the seals are toast, although they will be soon enough if you continue blowing oil by them.
Most people would rebuild the turbo just to be safe, but it isn't always required.
BTW, you should not have oil all the way to the top of the oil pan unless you overfilled the engine.
Also, what does your feed line consist of? I use a 1mm restrictor in mine.
