I got tired of my real project so did a side "junkyard" project *PICS*
Since my Accord with fully built turbo h22 is taking forever....I got tired of waiting for a turbo car and on the side, turboed my 240sx.
Here's some pics: (BTW, I fixed the oil feed line and routed it through the side )
Setup is:
custom made manifold
1st gen DSM 14b turbo
some dsm IC pipes along with home depot plumming pipes
SR20DET 370cc injectors
HKS AFR
Turbo XS BOV
2nd gen DSM SMIC
Stock wastegate is set at 10.5psi. I wish I could lower it but I can't so for now I just try to drive around half throttle at most and keep under 8psi. I hit 10.5psi some times and the car's got some mad torque. (at least it feels that way). I can't believe how fun this car is with boost and it only cost me around $700. Plus the car only cost $1500 so I can't beat that.
Just wish my Accord was done...the more and more I drive a RWD car, the more I wonder whyI ever decided to do my accord project in the first place.

Nah, the PVC won't hurt anything. I've run it myself, and Sitar hit high 9's running the stuff at a lot more boost pressure and power than that 240 is going to be dealing with. I do advocate ABS over PVC, though, because PVC starts looking like a greasy shitpile after a few thou... it attracts ever speck of grease underhood, and you can't ever get it off.

Re: (Bryson)
Most people get a FWD car first... then they drive a rwd car... then some get to drive an awd car..
I eventually want to have at least one of each ;-) all fun to drive in their own way.

where did u get that manifold? my buddy needs one really bad.
also do u know if the exhaust bolt patterns are the same as the SR20DET? like could u use the turbo manifold form an SR20DET swap on the DOHc 240?

yea, AWD is awesome too....in my dream world, yes, I would have one of each.
The manifold is originally from jgstools.com where they sell a weld-it-yourself kits. Since I don't have a welder though, I found someone who already welded it and was selling it.
The SR20DET manifolds are the same size but not the same bolt pattern unfortunately...i would imagine you can make some sort of adapter plat but yea...it's stupid. here's a ka24de (stock 240sx pattern):
__o___o___o___o
o ___o___o___o
Where as the SR20DET bolt pattern is:
__o_o_____o_o
o_____o_o______o
I had to use the "_" because otherwise it'll delete the empty spaces...hope that kind of explains it.

I really love boosted 240sx's, as well...it really infuriates me that so many people swap in the sr20. I mean, it's real cool to get a smaller engine! There are two build-ups on the SDS homepage (I think) and one is making like 290whp@7psi!, which is pretty incredible. Also, this is an iron block, as opposed to aluminum on the sr20, and the only think it's missing is forged rods (correct me if I'm wrong).

Re: (Non Trbo)
I'm starting two KA turbo setups right now '95 240 and '98 240. Based on some dynos I have seen, they really do put out some great numbers at lower boost. I hope both the ones I'm doing turn out to be good brodie machines. Using 60trim T3s and pretty decent fmics. I'm building the manifolds, DPs and charge piping. Your budget setup must be fun with all the torque and whatnot

Re: (Bailhatch)
Yea, the stock KA engine's are some torqy suckers. I'm running 10.5psi (even though I wanted to run only 8psi) and the thing feels crazy strong. I'm curious what kind of numbers it's putting out. What would you guys estimate?
I'm running extra rich right now though just to make sure I don't lean out.

I can't believe you found a 14B that didn't have a cracked turbine housing. DSM guys tell me that is a big problem.

well, they eventually crack..but a hair line crack isn't going to cause trouble for a while. if the crack goes all the way through then yes....you can still find quite a lot of 14b's in good condition.
