I am maxing out my turbo. Is that BAD????
Hi my wife has a built d16z6 with a T3 60 trim .42/.48 and we made 307whp 270tq but at 23psi. It would not build any more pressure even with the wastegate closed. What negative effects will this have if any. Thanks
Oh ya and she has a duel stage boost controller so its only at 12psi (low boost) most of the time.

couple things to add before answers pour in
1. was it surging?
2. that's a super 60 right? as in straight t3 not a t3/t4 hybrid?

I think it's one size under the super 60. I had the blow off valve (bov) spring tightened down to hard and heard a shh-shh-shh-shh sound from the compressor side of the turbo instead of the bov sound. When I loosend the spring it stopped. I think that's compressor surge.

I guess my question is, will I destroy my turbo or blow my motor due to to much cylinder pressure?

No. you'll destroy the turbo because its out of its efficiency range, overspinning, AND blowing hot air which could cause additional detonation and then blow your engine.
Also, running a turbocharger too high out of its efficiency range will cause it to fatigue, and could disintegrate, leaving pieces in your engine. So there are a variety of reasons why doing this is bad.

It's really a coin toss. Some people push their turbos well beyond the efficiency range for extended periods with no issues, and some people have a catastrophic failure after just a few times. Heat does bad things, I wouldn't suggest pushing your luck, but I'm not going to say it'll fail on you either. I push my turbo pretty hard about once or twice a year, but then I drop it back into the efficiency range directly after.

I keep trying to read the compressor map and i don't seem to understand it, what is the max psi but still in the efficiency range?
