hybrid holset hx40 on a sohc
i currently have a hx40 mated to a garrett .48 turbine housin I dont know if anyone had done this before,I really dont know the specs on the holset but i know the turbine wheel is big as a ****.I want to know the pros and cons on this setup.
Its going on a mildly built sohc vtec and I'm plannin on runnin about 10-15psi with this turbo my power goal is about 250whp.

I think it's going to surge like a mother with that small a turbine housing with that compressor. A .82 might work decently.

the turbine HOUSING may be small; that just means it will be restrictive; that turbine itself is as big as your fist; a D will never get that turbo spinning hard enough to make power...

i'd just sell it and go with a small garett t3/t4 if you only want 250whp
or just go with a t25...that **** will spool like a **** and still make 250whp

That's one big housing. You should stick with a straight T3. That should put you in your 250whp range with the right supporting mods.
Even a smaller mitsu turbo will put you over 200whp at about 11psi+.
If you have a plan of expanding your goals....go with a t3/t4 57 trim turbo. This turbo will definately put you near/over 250whp.

Funny, I've seen threads of an Audi 1.8T spooling a straight HX40 with the huge 22 cm^2 turbine housing, which is much larger than that .48 AR.
Again, DSM with straight HX40, to the tune of 521 whp if memoery serves.
I see no reason why you can't spool it... and lots of the straight T4 for street-able Honduhs come with .58 AR turbines, Ken at cheap/phoenixturbo promises of 15 psi in first gear on Trav-***' low CR 2.0/VTEC. So what if it's a little laggy on a SOHC...
I think it's a wierdfuk combo, and it might be a little too peaky for your taste, but I think it will spool and produce usable boost. Overkill for 250 whp - more like 650+

Re: (kasso)
the housing was obvioulsly machined to accept the wheel... if you have the exducer and inducer measurements, you can have the housing machined... its whati had done to my custom garrett turbo. so now im gonna go buy some ******* huge holset and just have a t4 housing made for it.. hehe :D

Man, seriously... can I smoke some of your crack rocks??? That compressor housing is 2.5" bigger diameter than T04, and the machining to fit the turbine wheel is waaaaaay bigger than a "stage 5" turbine wheel. The overall length, because CHRA and comp are alien to Garrettstuffs, is going to be 2-3" greater than T3/T04.
I'd run it to see where it spools, etc, to sell it just as much as to try it out. This guy is in ??? territory, no one knows how it will run, I know enough that it will spool from everything I've experienced, but...
