Default Huge Problem with Mahle Pistons Quality...anyone else?

Here is an 87mm Mahle piston given to me by a customer for an H series build. A nice strut design but it is almost .100" too narrow to ever fit a Pauter rod.

The box says the pistons were 9-1 but I have never seen a Prelude 9-1 with a dome. It should have about a -7cc dish. Also the valve reliefs are very shallow.

Oh yeah, one last thing...one skirt was .020" thicker that the other skirt.
Worst quality control I have ever seen.
If this is F1 technology, I think I'll pass
Anyone else have a good or bad experience with Mahle?

I didn't even know mahle made pistons for the H series motor?

Here is a snap of the CP's we used in a build Mase and I did.

Here's another snap of some JE's for an h23a.

My custom CP 88mm's also have the - dish as well. You are correct though, every 87mm shelf piston I have seen for the H series have a small dish. I'm assuming that is a graphite coating on the Mahle piston skirts. Possibly that is what is throwing the skirt dimensions off? Does the piston come with the piston to deck height specs by any chance?

You may want to call mahle because I believe they use a "ferrostan/ferroprint" coatings depending on the type of application cylinder bore. We all know the H series have the nikasil FRM lined walls so I don't know if they took into account the new set-up will be for an iron ductile sleeve or not.

See what I'm talking about with having customers bring you parts? hehe.

Earl, what does the customer plan on doing with the pistons at this point?
Is it feasible to machine the rods? From the looks of the pic, it looks as though
a stock rod would barely have enough clearance... Looks like a case of parts being
released with little to no r&d time... shame, this is not what i like to see.

Also, any chance that these pistons have a lower overall height as compared
to the stockers (and as it appears the CPs)? That may explain the dome instead
of dish, and less than adequate appearing valve reliefs..

Earl, I thought you knew what you were doing? You gotta tap the rod in the piston with a rubber mallet. If it gives you trouble then get a bigger hammer.

These pistons will not work even with a stock rod.
I'm not willing to take the liability of modifying the pistons to fit.
Plus the compression ratio is way off on them. I wish I knew what they were thinking when they made this piston.

ive never used mahale in a honda but use them in porsche engines all the time and they make some good pistons, ive never had that happen, and hopefully you wont judge mahale off of just that set.

i would send them back and get a new set.
