Default How restrictive are 3 chambers mufflers?

So my 3" high flow cat. took a crap on me and I was thinking about replacing my muffler while I'm working on the exhaust system.

The police around here uses the "metal wire" technic to check of your exhaust is modified. They basicaly stick a metal wire inside your muffler and if it goes straight thru. You're busted. They don't have the equipment to test how loud your car is. So instead they nail you for the design of the muffler that is different then stock.

Anyway, I was wondering how much more restrictive a 3 chamber design muffler would be compare to my Magnaflow "WideOpen" straight thru muffler?

I'm want to get a 3" Magnaflow XL:

Any good?

you will definitely lose a bit of power. Whats your whp? If you have a 400whp car you will lose a lot more power than on a 250whp car.

flowmaster's have always been good imo. only used them on some older v8 powered vehicles but they never seemed too restricitive, im suprise that your county can do that? not test db but say that it too loud? its like when cops try and say I visualyl clocked you at 44 the speedlimit is 40, its like bs lol. I doubt cops could tell 95db from 97 or vice versa.

I used to run a flowmaster when I was in the 220hp range. They actually sound really good on a boosted Honda.

They pull you over because your exhaust is too loud but they can't give you a ticket for that because they can't prove it in a court of law. So instead they prove that your exhaust isn't stock and the way they do that is my proving the exhaust doesn't have internal chambers.

STFU.

Using them for the white trash sound on some older V8 cars doesn't have **** to do with a turbo 4 cylinder. You're as good as tony413.

Blue line = flowbastards
Red/Green = Dynomax

Look at all that mid range.

Most chambers mufflers on the market are built with V8 in mind.

I've read a couple of reviews and I like the Hooker Aerochambers. It's fairly cheap and it seems to flow pretty good.

But it has an aluminized finish. How well would that resist to our Canadian winters? Is it going to rust to **** after one year? lol

I should probably get a stainless steel muffler right?

thats what I have as well, with 2 18" resonators up front...it's very quiet. The muffler is actually a 2.5" muffler with 3" flared ends. My car showed no signs of choking up but it only made 300ish at the wheels at 10psi (60trim/b16). Open dump wastegate helps too. Im going to use a 3" hooker max flow once i recirc the WG and run more boost.

I used to run a 40 series deltaflow on my boosted prelude, 3in DP back... i was tired of the look so i swaped it to an apexi muffler, as soon as i went on the street with the new muffler i kept hitting boost cut... my previous boost setting was around 15psi... it kept hitting boost cut which was 18.5 psi... i did nothing to the boost controller just welded the new muffler on!! flowmaster on FI

A turbo setup is a turbo setup is a turbo setup. Chambered mufflers are very restrictive, and suck *** for turbo setups. It's not hard to pick that up out of that post, a mid sized single turbo on a very mildly modified 302 is not going to create much backpressure, and ditching the crappy flowmaster already helps out tremendously.

I'm big dicks to people like you, who don't know what they're talking about and give people advice when they have absolutely zero real experience with the subject
