How reliable is your boosted car?
I am just wondering how realiable is your turbo'd b18b cars? Are there any problematic things that are prone to happen to these engines? Ill be pushing low boost (6-8 psi). Thanks.

although the tune is crucial to reliability, driver restraint, maintenance, and responsibility also play a big *** role.
i can have my b18b tuned to 8psi but if i decide to up the boost without getting retuned thats my fault if the engine blows, not the tune's fault.
as for me, my turbo setup hasnt given me many headaches...sure, other issues may have popped up after i've gone turbo, but i cant single out the turbo as being a cause.

Chances are, when you first turbo a car, any lack of maintenance you've had over the years will immediately show it's ugly face. After that, and with a good tune, you should be fine with maybe a few blown silicone couplers or small oil leaks.

Re: How reliable is your boosted car? (motormike40)
Every time I drive the car I check my oil level and my coolant level. I change the plugs every oil change. I change my oil and filter at 1,500 miles. I have had ignition problems, fuel pump problems, oil leaks (fix them all), MAP sensor issues, etc. Nothing major but some people are not cut out for it. I made 317whp on a Dyno Dynamics loaded dyno with a slipping clutch, ignition issues and stopping the pull at 6800RPM out of 8000RPM

Boosted engines can be as reliable as a bone stock car as long as you don't cut corners. Fueling upgrades and proper tuning is the key to reliability.

Re: How reliable is your boosted car? (PrecisionH23a)
i have 6000 miles on my b16
i drive it to work every day it doesnt rain
there is alot of work keeping everything good
i only get like 50 miles on a set of plugs on race gas
and i change my oil every 500 miles
havent had a single problem yet
but no corners were cut as far as components
or machine work

Get it anyway. It's cheap insurance. I'm only making pushing 213whp and I opted to go with the walbro.

tuning is just one aspect, yes tuning is probably one of the most important factors, however u guys are forgetting to mention everything from the correct motor build, to quality parts that wont crack, break, fail, to fitment issues that will lead to problems down the road, and installation of the turbo system as well.... if bolts fall off down the road, hell ive even see a whole turbo fall off the manifold while driving...
but to answer your question, just like others have said, if you do things correctly, then they can be extremely reliable

Sometimes even with good parts and a good tune, an engine may still succomb to hard abuse.
Edit: I didn't add about my car. It's only been turbo'd this summer, but so far it's just like it was before the turbo, only faster!

And regular maintenance (oil change, oil filter change, bleed cooling system, adjust valves when needed, etc)

mine is self tuned, and cranks everyday (only car)
sleeved 84mm lsvtec
Definitely check the oil, coolant, and plugs on a regular basis
