How much WHP can stock axels handle?
Like the topic states. Curious to know.
Look at my sig for info on the car.
I should be safe for the time being right?
I plan on getting a 3 inch exhuast and tuning up ot 8psi, but still run 5 psi daily even when I do get the 3 inch. Or should I say IF I get the 3 inch.
I might be buying a MotorBike next summer so I might wanna get that instead.

youd be surprised how much hp stock axles have hold. really surprised.
What really kills axles is wheel hop and tire size. there are other factors too but these are the biggest in my eyes.
an lsd will cause even more axles to break then open diff

Yea my axles held up for about 10 runs total at the track and i pushed about 275 whp and 205 tq.. I ran 24.5x8x13 M/T slicks...I broke one axle and was still able to drive back home which is a 2 hour drive away from the track. It was a bumpy ride though... So yea stock axles are pretty strong

I have ran all my passes this season (see signature) on stock axles. I have a little over 500hp, and they took ALOT of abuse, only been though 3 this whole season, and 2 of themwere because i was testing some new rear suspension, could have been avoided.

I agree, you can run a 500 hp honda on stock axles with radials because the tires will give before the axles do. And the same goes for the clutch, if you have a street clutch, you will also be fine, because the clutch will slip dramatically(even if you dont think it does) and that take alot of the initial shock off the axles. So the moral of the story, if you have a HULK of a clutch, ie, CM stage 5, and huge slicks, 24x10x15 then yes, you will need stronger axles because thats the last week point next to a stock diff. I have killed stock diffs before i have snapped axles. I also ran a CM stage 3 clutch with 20x6x14 slicks on my all motor set up for 2 years, launching at 8200 and it never broke a thing. If your making power and have slicks and a big *** clutch, upgrade axles, otherwise, you should be fine.

Running the same axles here lol, wonder what the return policy on that is? "...but I hit a dip and the axles split in half"

Same deal with Adv. Auto parts.
I believe traction and torque have the biggest part in breaking axles. Makes me wonder why these aftermarket axles companies don't rate the axles for torque rather than HP.

Re: How much WHP can stock axels handle? (Snafu-Si)
I've seen many stock axles break on very mild setups (I/H/E and lowered). Usually because of to much camber, and being way to low, with a combination of driving very harshly.
I've also seen many higher HP cars use stock axles, but they wheren't beat on constantly, and not as low.
For those who got the lifetime warranty on there replacement axles, about how much are they?
oh and don't forgot gator axles are well priced.

I made about 65 passes down the drag strip this year on stock axles at just about 400 whp. Running 24.5x7x13" MT slicks and I have yet to break one.

yea i got Advanced Auto Axles on now too since my stocks broke on BFG's from wheel hop .
I can tell you what those things are beefy as **** . I got the GCK's , for th emoeny i spent i can tell they are pretty damn durable.
but i have also seen clsoe to stock single cam civics break axles on stock tires. . . but the fronts were too low putting too much stress on the axles. . . theresalot of variables that come into play

I saw a crx owner at the track that ran 12.5 with an all motor set-up. I asked him what axles he used he said stock integ axles, then said said, " you have to get them to the right height", and I was like....UMMM...OK...
I think he meant by lowering the car, it straighens the axles so that they aren't at an angle = making them handle more power.
It was also a LS/B-series motor so I'm sure it was using "b-series axles"
You guys gotta remember that the SOHC civic guys use MUCH smaller axles. My friend had an older accord that snapped axles all the time, but he dumped the clutch and had a 100shot..
My car only ever ran 15.1 with my old set-up with factory everything ( even slipping clutch, 155K miles ), but when I swapped the D16Z6 motor into my car the driver side axles input spline was missing a chuck and was cracked in 3 different places. I took it to advanced auto parts for a core and the guy said " I don't think they're gonna take this core.." I looked at him and said " I don't think they will either, HERE YOU GO !!!!".
My calulated HP was only 135hp on the nitrous, and that was destoyed !! Maybe the B-series axles can handle a lot, but the SOHC axles don't help me sleep at night...

You can snap them all motor (so say, ~170-250whp)... They were holding up for us okay until you get above 400whp... Above 500whp I would go with aftermarket, that's when trannies, etc. start breaking Mark Williams axles Just my $0.02, Peace

Stock axles can handle quite a bit.... my friend dynoed at 460hp and only broke 1 or two axles during 2 years. He says the secret is to lauch at very high rpms 7-8k so the tires would slip. I believe he's running 24.5x9.5x15.

Re: How much WHP can stock axels handle? (turtle-eg)
thats true....how you launch the car will have alot to do with whethere they break or not...being that usually where that axle breaks 99.999% of the time...I hope my % is accurate but dont quote me on that one....

Autozone LIFETIME WARRANTY axles own!!! I'm not running any crazy horse power or anything (basically stock), but when I build my turbo car over this winter, you bet I'll be getting a second set of the AZ Special.
Plus, I gave them my D series as the core!

I have broke one axle at the track this whole season with about 45 passes, But I busted two on the street because of wheel hop. I have been pulling high 1.60 60 foots peg legged. It really has ALOT to do with experience at the race track and what your car likes.
Good luck, Cort.
