Default How much whp before you need headstuds?

On a stock GSR? I guess the better question is how much whp did you have on stock head bolts....

i would get them anyways because you cant reuse stock ones and you can reuse arp's. they are good insurence so your head doesn't come up off the block. they are only about 115 bux or cheaper.

We have never had a problem with 300-325, id probably put some in if looking for more than that.

I recommend them for all D-series motors...

Like a good fuel pumps, they are just good measure in my opinion.

you need head studs to start out with anyways or your head would go flying.

nice try but no, the factory uses head BOLTS, this guy is considering converting to head STUDS. there is a difference. back on topic, im in the same boat, i think im just gonna do it.

now if i were to just change the bolts to studs would i need to change the head gasket also?

no. the studs go in the same holes the bolts normally do.

Yes anytime the headgasket gets tightened down you need to replace the head gasket when you open the head up again.

IMO: On a B series, if you are not going to open the head for internal changes the stock ones will probably be OK. On a D series I would change it above 250 or so HP. If you notice any head lifting issues it's a fairly simple fix, but you risk warping the head if not done.
