I ran mine to about 7500 back when it was boosted.. once it saw 85xxrpm (that's over 9k on the tach) on a miss-shift Scarry stuff!

Mine is set at 7600 because I have such a big turbo. This is on a stock block. Built block I plan on 8000-8300

The revlimit is 7200 as well.. the stock tach is off as the rpm climbs. I know in my GSR and my Civic, the factory rev limit was spot on with the redline as per the AFC, even though my tach would show as much as 300rpm off.

I increased mine at the beginning of the summer, no problems yet. If something happens, oh well. Gives me more of reason to put the built motor in.
Edit, no wonder my tach says 8000 when I shift. Are all the honda tachs off?

It's not just Honda tachs, the tach in my DSM is off by about 300-400 rpm at redline.
My buddys Integra's tach reads high too, I'm not sure exactly how much, but I bet it's a couple hundred rpm.
My rev limiter is 8200, stock block and stock head (plus cam). I shift before that though.

Re: (D-Man)
So, what should I be shifting at with my boosted y8, only thing done to the head is a 3 angle valve job, and for the block I have eagle rods and forged pistons and a block gaurd.

The z6 redline is at 7600 stock. I rev mine to 7500 stock untouched ecu all day long when slamming shifts w/o hitting any sort of revlimiter. This is all verified as per afc peak + hold function...
