how much power will a tdo5 18g support and question about waste gates
Ok people have told me that the greddy kit has a tendency to spike. with that said isnt it true that spikes are caused by a wastgate that is to small??? if this is true the more boost you have the turbo set for the less the spike will be because the gate will not have to open as far to controll the boost. am I going in the right direction here? any way if you set up a greddy kit for running 18psi with a MBC on a daily basis then the spiking will be minimized correct? for instance a very large turbo that run really low boost levels needs a large wastgate as opposed to a small turbo that runs high boost. any info would be helpful thank you

the internal wastegates that come on the greddy turbo's suck! I have one for sale but it is a custom td05-18g. SFp welded the flapper shut and I mounted the turbo on an sfp mani with an external wastegate. Pm me for more info and if your interested in buying this from me. I have not had one spike since I did this. let me know

it doesnt spike.. i have it on my gsr rite now...never spiked once...the way i see it.. usually externals spike more.. when they have a bad placement of the waste gate on the manifold itself

I have a couple of friends that drive DSM's with upgraded turbos and they have never said anything about haveing boost spikes with thier cars. some have 16g and some with 20g and no problems. does anybody else have any info? thanks

my 18g spiked like crazy. part of it was tuning. part of it was my very open exhaust. if you keep your cat and the stock downpipe, you're likely to be ok. but running 18psi on the 18g? might want to consider getting a bigger turbo.
oh and...the larger the turbine wheel, the smaller the wastegate thats needed...generally speaking.

the 18g will support about 400 hp. spikes when you use a bigger than oem downpipe.

thats not true at all. I used the greddy dp that came with the kit and I had alot of problems with spiking. Mainly due to me having no cat not because of the dp.

i had that kit before and was boosting 18 psi daily estimate my car at around 350whp max but whit lots of work in there ex:3"downpipe steinless exaust,port cent wastgate,port manifold,restrictor plate,good fuel management to fuel up the spike's etc...
i had lots of creep and spike up to 22-24 psi(kik hard) then back to 18 psi in top end
