How much power on what engine, boost, compression do you run?

Hallo,

i'am building up my new B16A Turbo. I don't know exacly what compression and boost i want to run.

Maybe some of you can post what setup you run (how much boost, what compression, on what engine, other modifications)

a short clear table without tonnes of text would help me most i think. I only want to get an overview of whats possible and whats most wanted.

Thanks
Malte.

Re: How much power on what engine, boost, compression do you run? (MalteEE8)

i'll start with the bottom of the list. (power wise)
stock b16a
garrett t3t4 (.65 bar)
greddy intercooler
sfc/fmu/rc 310's/crane trc-1/msd/ngk/magnecore...
see sig for power....
tuned on a dynojet.....
I'm in the process of deciding if i should go with forged internals, larger injectors, higher octane (101 approx), and up the boost. it will of course be tuned for the higher octane and only run that....

Hallo b16ahybrid,

did i get this right that you run the B16A stock compression?! or did you forgot to write it down?

maybe you can tell me what did you done to avoid detonations?! (retard ignition?! or something else?)

Thanks
Malte.

I ran a stock block b16a2 10.2:1 compression at 7psi everyday, and up to 10psi on the dyno with a t3/to4b turbo.

This was on a tuned hondata ecu. Not sure on timing and whatnot. I didn't do the tuning.

Just make sure you have enough fuel, and the timing is retarded enough to get rid of detonation. There are lots of other influences too...but those two, and premium gas are very important I would say. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Hallo,

many thanks so far for you answers...
i know about the timing problems but i also read that i couldn't do that too far because then i burn away my exhaust valves and the turbo and i also loose power when i retard to much because of to much boost, so i must find the golden middleway ;-) but you helped me a lot... hope to get some more setups to study.

Whats also interesting is how many degree you retard per psi of boost, i got the 1.25°/psi from hondata... is that right or do you have other values?

what do you think is the maximum of retard degree with a stock b16a block? (10,2:1 CR)

Thanks
Malte.

I think 1.25 deg per psi is on the conservative side.

Not sure though, Im not a tuner.

most people run 1 degree per psi of boost. if you were tuning to the EXACT spec, i think it's somewhere around .78 or something like that. but it's always good to be more conservative.. unless you have extra motors just LAYING around.
we've always run 1 per psi

stock compression (10.2:1) ..
as far as detonation prevention i run it a little rich (normal 12:1)....and a crane trc-1 (same as msd btm) that retard the timing .5 degree per psi of boost. Also i run colder plugs bcpkr7-es11
Thanks

with a intercooler of good size you should be able to run 1/2 to 1/4 of retard timing per pound of boost.

my tuner only pulled 3 degrees at 12lbs.. numbers in the sig

Hallo,

i think i can massure the Intake Air Temperature to check if my intercooler is good enough, but what temp is a good intercooler and what temp comes from a bad intercooler?!?

or is it just a try and error with the retarding?!

Bye
Malte.
