do your valves float now? i dunno much about the accord motors, but my b16a sees 9000 all the time on the stock valve train (dual intake springs rock) for only 1000 rpm a slightly stiffer spring is basicly all you need, you might be lucky and have type-r or gsr springs fit

theres no point revving more if ur not making power there.

perhaps saving an upshift/downshift on a road course.

if he's boosting, he might have a lot more torque at the wheels at higher redline than if he had to shift.

well i am planning to build my bottom end. currently i have a turbo setup. my redline is at 6200 so i'm hoping i can make power after 6200 without bending any valves and such. i just want rev a little past redline. so i'm just wondering what would be the basic upgrades of the head to rev about 1000 rpms over redline safely. thanks!

edit: i learned a lot about the bottom end on this board but the head was never really talked about .... so I'm just trying to learn more about the engine head.

IMO you need better valves and better springs and locks , but like others said why would you go 1000 over redline if you don't make any power after 6000rpm?

This is a good point. My max torque is at 4700 and power is at 5800 and then it starts dropping.

Bigger valves might help ya.

Bigger valves do make a little more power but not at a higher rpm
The (cams or cam) are what determands the power band

It doen't matter of torque/power falls off unless it is really, really sharp.

You want max torque at the wheels, which means stay in each gear until you absolutely have to shift.

thanks! i've learned something. i guess i'll rebuild my head with new stock parts instead because i don't really want to mess with cams and timing...

The more headwork, the better...

Umm...with the turbo the power band will be shifted UP, so the engine will have to rev HIGHER to get it's peak power/optimum shiftpoint. My engine (d16z6) is supposed to make peak HP at 6500rpm, or so, stock...I can gaurantee with my T3 that you would be better off to shift higher, because it still makes very good power up there...however, if his power band was very low to begin with (not familiar with that motor) it might not be necessary.
