Default How much gas do you burn 1st-5th gear pulls at 400whp+ (video inside)

I saw this video on youtube, 400+whp, look at how fast the fuel gauge drops, looks like he burned about 1/6th of the tank on that one pull, is that how it really is? What do you 400whp+ guys burn on a pull like that?

I'm going to go on a whim and say that the reason why his needle goes down is because all of the gas is being pushed to the rear of the tank ...

looks to be pretty low to begin with I wont even boost mine if I am at a 1/4 tank I have seen way to many motors blow because of lack of fuel.

Have to remember it's probably an older EG gauge cluster and level sending unit with the fuel sloshing around

I know I did a track day back in March. I filled up my tank as I left for the track and burned about 1/3 of the tank (~120 miles @ 28 mpg) before I got there. I did about four 20 minute sessions and had to refill my tank because I was starving for fuel. I basically burned the rest (2/3 tank) in 60 miles or so. I calculated my average mpg and it was about 15 if I recall. That was with 248 whp.

So can someone with 400whp+ estimate how much fuel they burn in a single 1st-5th gear pull, lets say up to 120mph. Half a gallon, 1 gallon? 2? I never thought about how bad the fuel consumption might be at these power levels, but i imagine with 880cc injectors, which are about 7x bigger then stock, that at wide open throttle you would burn 7 times the amount of fuel you would stock wot? is that sound about right?

yup. Plus isn't the guage needle just an approximation of fuel left if you continue at that much throttle/mph?

i have 368 wheel in an eg hatch, and when i get on it, it shows about a 1/4 of a tank loss right after i boost it, but once i back off it goes back up to where it was. It's something to do with how the gauge gets it's information. I can beat the shiz out of my car for a full tank, and i still get about 20 mpg. Normal driving about 28-29.

With just under 500hp if I do a 1st-4th gear pull(no need for 5th thats just scary), I can tell I lost fuel after the gauge goes back to normal.

Especially with an aftermarket fuel pump, the pump can pump the fuel faster than it gets returned to the tank, that is why the gauge goes down so fast.

If you keep watching it, it will slowly go back up, at least mine always did in my EG. It would almost go from 1/2 tank to E, then it would slowly work its way back up.

One way to alleviate this is to drill a .035 hole in your FPR. Here is a how-to on how to do it.

This is pretty normal. I usually autocross with 1/2 tank. After each run I look down and my tank is on E, then it slowly comes back up after I pull back into the pits.

Never heard of anyone going through too much gas on just a few pulls.
