Re: HOw much boost or power can a non sleeved D series handle??? (JDMCRX)
Your going to get a lot of differant answers that will range from as low as 8 psi and up. My personal opnion is they can hold 22psi tempoarly. I wouldn't run 22 daily, but im farily confident that they can hold ATLEAST 22psi at the track. I'll be putting that confidence in my motor running 22psi on the stock sleeves, with forged rods and pistons. Play it safe and run 16psi, im sure that won't be a problem.

No sh*t!!! I'm having a hard time believing 22lbs is a safe psi for any stock Honda block. I'm running 10lbs. on a stock D15 and I think I'm pushing it.

I know of someone who made 300+ on a stock bottom end, but blew it when he went over 20 psi. He was running in the 12's before he blew it.

There you go guys, this is who you need to talk to. He's renouned for his stock block putting down awesome numbers. It wasen't the sleeves that gave out at 20psi, it was the warped head causing hydrolock. There are several people hitting 300whp on the stock sleeves. I haven't heard of the sleeves giving out on one yet.

How much tuning did it have? What was kind of fuel/ignition management? Did it just get too hot, or just to much pressure on the head? big , that is one hell of an accomplishment.

i'd say your pushing it at 300-350 with the right fuel and engine management.
....as far as boost goes. 22lbs of boost doesn't mean anything. it will NOT take 22lbs of boost on a 60-1 or bigger. its not the boost that will kill the block, its the power your making with it.

So I should get a horsepower gauge and get rid of my boost gauge.

All i did was a very very light tune wich was just adding a little bit of fuel where needed not really getting donw with timing and all that stuff.... all i had was 440cc inj, supra tt pump, vafc, msd6btm (btm set at .25). the car overheated because my fan was wired backwards for some reason and wht the big fmic that i was runing did not help causing it to overheat. i took nothing of it and decided to race it wich was kind of dumb and ran 11's on it then later blew up at top end on a different pass.

Re: HOw much boost or power can a non sleeved D series handle??? (JDMCRX)
I think the main thing to take into consideration is when does the "Power" exceed the MAX TENSILE STRENGTH of the connecting rod at BDC.
All engine manufacturers know that the con rod must be able to handle X amount of stress at this one given point when the engine is functioning. The amount of stress that it can handle is WAY less that the amount of power that the stock engine makes.
INSERT - BOOST. Now you are going to be making more Power, but you aren't going to be changing the amount of stress being put on the con rod that ONE KEY POINT.
See where I'm going with this? This info has been dervied from Maximum Boost by Corky Bell. The guys knows his **** and his shat. I trust what he says... read his book if you don't believe me.
turbos make torque and torque makes fun

no. know that you've shown me your knowledge, i suggest you sit back and do some more reading/experimenting before you post anymore.
it was said stock sohc sleeves could hold 22 lbs of boost. my response was that the comment was completely meaningless. 22lbs of boost on my stock wrx turbo is not the same as 22 lbs of boost on my civics 62-1. therefore, saying a sohc stock sleeve can hold 22 lbs of boost really isn't saying anything at all.....worth listening to at least that is.
again, pushing more than around 325 to the wheels on stock sohc sleeves is not a smart thing and will not last, regaurdless of how much boost it takes.........

It was sarcasm. You are correct, 22 psi on one turbo will not produce the same hp on another, that is well known. If you're saying 22 psi on a small turbo is safe than you are wrong.

I never said he didn't, he was the one assuming I don't have any knowledge of turbos. It just sounded funny the way he was saying 22 psi is ok to run as long as you aren't making any power with it.

exactly where in any of my posts in the last 3 years of me being on honda tech did i say that running 22lbs of boost through a small turbo was "good" or "smart". reread what i said and try again. you say your post was sarcastic but thats not really how it read........

Settle down. I don't want to argue. Maybe I shouldn't have brought humor to the thread. My bad.
It sounded to me like you were saying 22 psi was ok to run. Nevermind.
How could you think my comment wasn't sarcastic? I asked if I should trade my boost gauge for a horsepower gauge. Geez.
