How much boost can a stock radiator handle?

How much boost can a stock radiator handle?
I replaced my radiator two summers ago with another OEM radiator, but now that my Integra is turbo, I am worried about how much boost it will hold. My whole motor will be fully rebuilt and plan on boosting no more then 12psi.

stock radiator will hold 7-10 lbs on daily driven well tuned, maybe 12lbs at tracks. It's all about the tuning, make sure you have a perfect water/anti-freeze mix. lol
Most people used fluidyne radiators. I dont think there is hp range in which a radiator will blow-up. Most people with bolt-ons kits use their stock radiator.

they are only a few hundred dollars to upgrade, something i would do with anything over 200-250 hp...

but you dont want to blow a head gasket with a stock radiator for the chance of poping the top off and shooting coolant everywhere. A aftermarket one will just ballon out.

Well, my OEM radiator handled 7psi last summer, and I'm putting on a new OEM headgasket and headstuds, so it shouldn't leak out.

I wouldn't worry about a stock radiator failing on a boosted engine unless you were subjecting it to hot track laps on a regular basis. You should be good to go

All I wanted to know was when to worry about my OEM radiator blowing, and I get 10 different responses out of it. >>>
thats because the "how much boost?.......... etc." question is the main cause for litter on internet message boards. i thought honda drivers were smarter then the rest but nope, 95% crap burying the 5% of real information just like every other board.
p.s. Tony, damn you, haha. the first thing I thought was a smart-assed head gasket comment and you beat me to it. by about a week too, just like I get beat by a week by quick class hondas to the end of the 1/2.

I've had better luck with 10w-30 radiator oil at high boost levels. 2 quarts is usually enough to get the job done.

heheh.
Seriously though, there is a simple way to figure it out.
If you find your fan coming on after boosting, or while your NOT in traffic, then your radiator is too small.
Im running a new stock full length radiator in my CRX, and never had a problem with overheating. But, EF radiators are about twice the size of newer civic ones

At 12 PSI on an LS you're only pushing around 300 WHP +/-. So unless you plan on doing a lot of road racing, auto-x, lots and lots of drag racing or one really long WOT pull then a stock radiator will work. An aluminum rad will work better because no plastic endtanks to crack. You also might run a little cooler, and the rad might be less heatsoaked if you get an alum rad.

Why did you bump a 2 year old post to say this?
Your rad is related to blow HG's because if you blow a HG all that combustion pressure can get into your cooling system with nowhere to go.
