How many of you have a little smoke at idle? smoke would look like any car would on a real cold day.

My car seems to always have a slight hint of smoke coming from the exhaust once warmed up.

Does not change after hard runs or in and out of boost.

compression is 175-170-175-175
leakdown is 1%-4%-1%-1%

motor is a fully built y8

i thinking this is pretty much normal at this point, and just want to see who else has this issue.

mine smokes on idle sometimes also.. but my compression isnt as good as yours..my smoke can range from white to blue..lol very very little amounts though..

my turbo looks dry, i cant see any leaking oil out of it.. spark plugs are a little dark and red..

compression 200 195 160 175.. d16y7..

i dont think its my turbo smoking, i have a restrictor, oil pressure to turbo is 5psi on idle and 27-30 at redline..

looking to be my motor..

if its only at idle maybe your valve seals are leaking, the high vacuum at idle could be sucking oil through the seals..

post up what you find out..

Mine does the exact same thing, but it varies by how much smoke, when it does, how hot my engine is... a bunch of crap. I just live with it, my turbo is almost new and my compression test was pretty good.

Mine smokes very lightly when it is cold, none at all if it is driving, but when it sits idling with the TT on for more than 3 minutes, it starts to look like it's on fire lol.

Fully built B16 with 205 across the board. Think my turbo is just finally dying.

mine used to smoke at idle but it turned out that i had a slight slope in my return line, once i fixed the return line= no more smoke

so if everything is perfect it should not smoke at all ?

i guess i need to look at the return line again or something...

if it was the return line, wouldnt it smoke more as the oil pressure went up

how many just live with a little smoke at idle only?

my built B16 lets out like two puffs of smoke on a cold start then its smoke free. Does anyone else experience the car not immediately starting on all four cylinders? If i have not driven for a day or so when i start the car it has a miss for about 2-3 seconds and then it cleans right up.

Mine does the momentary miss for a couple of seconds if it sits for a day or two as well. My best guess (all it is as well) is the valves stem seals are getting a bit worn, it lets some oil drip down in the cylinders after a day or two and then requires a few seconds to burn it off and return to normal.

Could be way off base here though.

Question about oil return kinks though, my return is the size of a freaking garden hose and runs as straight as possible to the factory installed bung (aftermarket big oil pan) and there are no kinks whatsoever in the line. Feed is a 3an, still think it could be a back up problem for something like that? The return is not perfects straight, it's about a 45 degree angle from turbo to return but it's definately big enough.

Thats weird, after I let my car sit for a few days it starts up on the first crank, in like less than a second. But it usually starts up lika a normal honda 4cyl, turns over twice and then its on. Sometimes its hard to turn over but its completely random???

I don't know about his but mine still starts the second you hit the key, just seems like it's on two or three cylinders at idle for about 5 seconds then clears up and is perfect.

That is exactly what mine does.

Anyone else have input on this?

Mine does the same thing, starts up the second i crank the key, but will miss for a bit. I have new valve seals, so i think thats out. Whats your compression? Mine are good, all around 215 to 225 - y7 bottom end, y8 head, higher compression. But my number one cylinder hits at like 40 psi, and the rest at 75 psi, for the first hit. In my opinion its a tad low and could be the result of the miss as it builds up the compression, figure a few rotations. Just a guess, otherwise i dunno. Maybe an injector slightly leaking, or just a bit of moisture getting burned off. I've had it happen to my four door on occasion, but not nearly as often as my fun car. I don't really notice any smoke at idle, but i do get some from time to time driving, i'm guessing my rings, as i stated my valve seals have around 10k miles on them.
