I know that when there's oil in the turbo, the shaft play reduces. I bought my turbonetics t3/t4 used (10,000mi) a long time ago and it had slight side to side shaft play on the compressor side. I have since put about another 20,000 miles on it and it's still working great, not losing oil or anything.

But, I've been looking in the classifieds for sometime to upgrade and I've noticed a lot of relatively new turbos (~2000 mi) being listed with slight shaft play. This makes me very weary because a rebuild would really suck.

I'm wondering how many of you with new turbos are experiencing shaft play and if you see signs of leaking in your seals, and at what mileage.

People on hondatech think turbos dont last long because lots of people treat them like ****. Everything in the classifieds has been 'modified' by the seller to seem less threatening. Because of the overwhelming number of users who think 10k is a shitload of miles for a turbo, everyone sells thier turbo as only having 2k miles. More often than not its lies.

So long as a turbo was taken care of it will not degrade itself too quickly, some shaft play may develop but that is absolutely fine.
