How many miles did you boost your Honda with?
Hi all, just like it says just fulfilling some curiosity here. Wondering when everyone took the step.
I have 92,500 on my '00 Si and have had thoughts of turbo charging it for awhile. I finally have the money for a GReddy kit, hondata, clutch, etc.. and I am trying to decide if I want to take the step or not. I am good friends with a local guy here in KY that tunes Honda's so I know I have good local support for it. But although I think it can run fine for awhile, I know one day I will need a rebuild. If I could get maybe two 1 1/2 - 2 more years out of the stock engine I would be set.
Basically, is it even logical to turbo a high mileage car?

Sure you can. Do a compression test first. That will give you a good idea of what shape the motor is in. As long as you do the normal maintenance steps, you should be golden.
I've been raping my turbo D16Z6 at 10psi for the last 26k miles.

Thanks for the reply! The results of my compression test was 215, 215, 220, 225. Do I still need to do a leakdown test also? How many miles did you have on your car when you added the turbo?

haha, nice! I wish mine were that low . unfortunately I have to put around 50 miles a day on my car because of two jobs. If I don't turbo my car, I don't really know what else to get yet. I would like to have something forced inducted again for sure.

I was boosted at 148K miles. I'm now at 157K miles. The car has been running PERFECT.
Whoever said turbo'ing a high mileage car is dangerous and stupid, is full of ****! I am living proof and so are others, its not the mileage of the motor. Its the CONDITION of the motor.

Re: (spoolingb20)
lots of people told me not to boost my 99 si with only 63,000 miles on it, its now got 75k on it an i havent run into a problem yet with the motor or turbo(knock on wood). Durring the initial questions time i spoke with technicians at honda and it seemed like they were really trying to scare me away from turboing it and they said your going to need to have your trans rebuilt, and the cp is too high and ****, but i guess they dont understand that not all people rape transmissions etc. so i say go for it, my buddy just pulled a b18 block out of the local junk yard with 150k on it and did some maintenance on it and has thrown in about 50+ 100hp shots of nitrous at it and it runs perfect still. Honda motors are ****. just make sure to get a compression test to see if your in good shape.

Re: (urbansi)
my compresssion results are 215, 215, 220, 225. I think its sitting pretty good. I am also trying to decide whether or not to spend the extra on the Hondata right now, or just run the blue box setup for awhile. I have a newer stock clutch in the car right now, but Im sure it won't last long with added power.
Some of my other friends are suggesting a 1.8t gti. But those really need a turbo upgrade to be quick also I think. Plus I do like my Si a lot. I know turbo Hondas can live healthy lives if they are taken care of.

156,000 miles with about 15k with turbo on 10 psi. The trick to a lasting motor is to check oil and not run to rich to were you wash the rings out. Hondata on 10 psi worked for my brother's car................Soichiro Garage 7

Usualy for kit not runnung over 10 psi a manual boost controler should be good, but be real carefull when you turn the boost up and read the instruction.......Soichiro Garage 7
