Default how many have just "bolted on" a block girdle?

I am interested in knowing how many people have just put a block girdle on their motors without checking the mains?

If you have, have you torn your engine down since and what did the #3 mains look like?

thanks

What do u mean the same?? did all three motors spin a bearing, or were they fine?? I was researching that a while ago and I saw what u had said and a few other trust worthy people on H-T and I decided that I wasn't going to use a girdle. I will instead have the whole assembly balanced, bearing clearances checked and I will be using AEBS main studs on it.

A girdle is a good idea, just the amount of $$ to do it "right" (line honing the mains and doweling the girdle, and having the girdle machined if you are using a GSR girdle) would be equal or more than buying a GSR block.

Unfortunately I never used the LS shortblock that I built with a girdle, so I have nothing to add.

Do you guys think I should just upgrade the bolts on my b16 (looking for around 500hp), instead of running a girdle? I don't really plan on revving past 8500 rpm's.

Geoff. I had the bolt holes on my mains machined out to fit 13mm dowels (same as what align the mains to the block) for my Endyn girdle. The crank still spins as free (by hand) as it did with out the girdle. Do you think it would still be wise for me to have a line-hone done?

When I installed the Endyn girdle on my B18A, the machine shop recommended the align hone to be certain everything was square. Apparently the girdle can really throw the mains out of whack when it's torqued down. The whole job ran around $600 parts + labor though, so it's not cheap by any means.

I had my GSR girdle machined to fit the LS bottom (align hone and doweling).

How much was the align hone?

I have the Z-10 and had it doweled to the main caps already but not align honed yet. Im waiting to have my block sleeved first.

I have a z10 on my ls/vtec setup and had a line hone done before it was put on. Better safe than sorry!
