number 3 and 4 pistons ringlands went out in my gsr motor wen I wasn't happy enough with a 75 shot....I ended up drilling the jets, ran 2 rounds on the new install(felt great), then blew on the 3rd run

Fried all the pistons by boosting in 5th gear from 70 to ~ 145 (~30 seconds of 10 lbs of boost)

Hmm

Ls #1, Cracked a sleeve running 10psi, FMU + Stock Injectors = Boom
Ls #2, 15psi + Loaded a old map + 13.5-14 A/F Ratio = 120 Compression on #4 cyl with the rest 180's. Was still running strong but decided to yank it out.

Ls #1 might be getting GE sleeves
Ls #2 might drop one of my spare stock pistons on #4

Im on a b16 now VTEC wohoo

cracked ringlands #1 and #4 runnign 10 psi on my greddy gsr...and i had the walbro 255lph fuel pump, timing retard, and slightly rasied fuel pressure. however, i did have a custom 3 in. dowmpipe and exhaust...maybe that caused it to lean out too much...i dunno....

SWEET! I say, if you're gonna go, go big. Hehe.

I spun a rod bearing after only about 3K miles with the turbo on. But now after the rebuild, I'm taking real good care of my baby so it won't happen again. My friend insists that I ran outta oil.....but how could I be so dumb??!?!? I dunno.

it just seems like it's sooo easy to blow an otherwise stock motor...sure proper tuning may sidestep that to a pretty large degree, but it just seems like a big risk...i'm going turbo soon, and i'm wondering whether or not i should build my block first, or turbo first...i'm leaning more towards building my block first ( i have a spare b18b block which i plan on resleeving and boring to 84.5 mm, pistons, rods, etc...and slap on the head from my b16, which i have in the car at the moment)...

i hear so many stories of people breaking ring lands, it makes me scared to boost on a stock engine...

Overrevved my ZC. The wheels were OFF THE GROUND, caught on a snow bank. lightweight FW reved WAY too fast. Spun a bearing, later to have a rod thrown through the block and into the rad. I was more pissed about the rad than anything! It was like new. BTW, happened at Christmas time, so a 4 hour swap turned into a week wait for parts. DO NOT blow up your car over the holidays, or get a beater like I did (IF you live in the snow!). Later, Overkll

Im no mechanic but I boosted 20 psi + 75 shot of Nos on a stock bottom b16 with 2 gaskets. The engine was built overnight .The damn thing ran good until Nos was added, I was told the motor ran lean. Threw a rod and punched 2 holes in the block,LOL.

Boosting 9psi with JRSC on 11:1 compressed engine. Cylinder number 4 gone with zero compression after 1/2 hour dynotuning. Damn intake temps were more than 85 degrees C.

Now back with turbo setup.

i've blown my engine before and after going standalone.
before going standalone, I friend my piston by boosting at 10psi with absolutely stock internals, stock C/R, and one additional injector.

after going standalone with the Link ECU, I blew piston no. 4 by racing with a Carrera 4 at 1.6bar of boost (about 24psi) in 5th gear. Even though I killed the engine, I still had a smile on my face being able to hang with a Porsche at very high speeds

my D16Y8 has had its days, and is not in very good shape anymore (its served me well), so i'm pulling the engine out and starting my new project.. B18C turbo

Are you talking about the hose that connects the compressor to the wastegate? Mine's real lose....but I can't seem to find any hose clamps to fit!

Now I'm scared.

oh yes....

D15B7 w/t25. 7-8 psi daily. My boost controller was mounted in my coin box (5g HB center console) and right after I had a new cd deck installed, the vac lines were pinched and I had no boost control at all. The installers fault. Didn't know it until I tried to pass someone on the freeway WOT and the boost gauge jumped to 17psi. Woooo!

2 rods though the block and 1 was bent like the a crescent moon. Neat stuff.

I was trying to push 11 PSI through a LS piston'ed B16a... 8.5ish:1 compression, but on stock fuel injectors with a Vortec FPR. Oops. It lasted aout 2 hours of playtime, and was hella fast, but it started smoking... I melted number 1 and number 2 pistons. Oops.

I beat up on a C4 Vette just after it began smoking

Default If you don't want to blow your motor...

Take it easy and tune it properly. You don't need sleeving and all that other stuff if you tune your car properly.

I am speaking for boost under 87-8 lbs. Anything over that and you need to do some work or some GREAT tuning.

I think mine blew out at 3 psi. I turned down the boost because it was having MAD problems. Everything was wrong about that car. If you are int he Chicago Land area stay away from Team Noble Racing - they will just rip you off and act like they did nothing wrong.

it didn't feel any 'stronger' at 17psi than at 8psi and I'm sure the MF2 tried its little heart out to keep up but the T25 just spooled so fast that it was over before it even started.

scary experience but I was absolutely fascinated to tear the motor apart and check out the innards.

Blown/cracked rings on 2 and 3. Pieces fell off #3 when they pulled it out.

but it's all better now...

Same here dude I kept all my broken parts including the turbo which was piston raped. Now I have an unrecognisable paper weight(ball of piston) on my desk.

First time, put the turbo on my stock '00 si at 10lbs. Within a week the ringlands were broken in cylinders 2 and 3. Didnt put the vortech fmu on because i'm an idiot and didnt think i needed it.

Second time, got a little boost happy and boosted 12lbs w/je pistons and eagle rods , w/ stock injectors...big mistake. It lasted about 4months til it blew. Turns out the pistons were melted on the top and sides of cylinder 2 and 3.

Third time (3 days ago), boosted 15lbs w/ je pistons overbored.50 w/ eagle rods. No detonation, but the 3rd cylinder wall decided to crack. Pistons look ok from the top. Hoping nothing else is fucked. It was at 7lbs for a week, then 10lbs for another few days, then i took it to 11lbs for about another week, then finally to 15lbs which lasted 2 days.

btw...all of this is within a year. As u can see i have had many problems and have gotten a little boost happy. Hopefully i'll learn my lesson soon.
