Default How to make more boost with a Garrett Gt2871r?

I have a garrett gt2871r on my fully built/sleeved d16y8.
Right now it still has a internal waste gate and im running a greddy cast manifold. It only makes 16-18lbs of boost with the waste gate vacuum line disconnected and the rod on the waste gate actuator rod tightened. I put on a pfab ramhorn and it only made 12lbs
For boost control i have a greddy electronic boost controller

How can i make more boost with this turbo? Im looking for 20-25 lbs.

The car dynoed at 320whp at 18lbs. Im trying to get 400

You need to physically change actuators in order to make more pressure on the GReddy manifold. the boost controller can only do as much as about 2.8X the actual actuator.

With that said, however, you still won't make 400whp on a GT2871R. Time to upgrade turbos entirely to a GT3071R Internally gated or GT3076R internally gated. Those will still fit your Greddy manifold and won't require any changes to your downpipe.

got two choices the way i see it.....either upgrade or run 18lbs (iirc max efficiency of that lil guy) for street dutys and toss a 50 shot for the track....this was my old set-up, unfortunatly i never ran it

Is there anyway to upgrade my current turbo with a different compressor housing and wheel?

go to ATPturbo.com and get the 14psi wastegate for that turbo. that's what I did for my 18G which is very similar to your GT28 and I make a steady 22psi. don't think you're hitting 400hp though. I only hit 375, anymore boost and turbos of this nature just **** heat.

If you want to hit past 400WHP, you will mechanically need to change your engine setup.. e.g. higher compression, etc.. The compressor won't support past 400 WHP on a D16Y8 for sure though because I doubt it will get that kind of power below 20 PSI. Anything beyond 20PSI the turbo will no longer flow enough.

I used to make 427 WHP on a GT2871R & HKS log manifold on my B18C1, but with 10.5:1 CR and other goodies and tapped right at 20-22 PSI.

I used to run a Forge Motorsport actuator, but nowadays, ATP will have a vast selection of higher PSI actuators that fit onto the GT2871R.

Housing alone won't do anything. Compressor wheel, might give an extra 25-50whp if you pick the correct one, but the turbine wheel will still struggle to get to 400whp, especially on a D16 like yours.

time to upgrade turbos, man.
