how to make EGT readings lower?

when i race someone, my EGT goes high 800's (c), and if i raced even harder, im sure it would come REAL close to 900 or more. so my question, is how to have the readings become lower? car is already tuned.

add fuel or advance timing.

but we really need full setup description including a/f ratio.

post a pic of where the probe is at, mine is in the #1 runner, and i'm 1300-1400 when i get on it

umm...shouldn't he retard timing?

98civicex, I think he means celsius and you mean fahrenheit... 1500ºF~~900ºC

mine is a custom manifold, and it is right in the middle.

Exactly right, but if you have wideband tuned your car.. Than do not worry about it. If you are using your EGT as a warning guage, than you need to look for spiking.. Your EGT will also be affected by elements such ad exaust heat soak, and Climate(Humidity, and Air temp)..

I wouldn't give it too much thought..

See ya,

No, Retarding his timing will actually raise his EGT, because he will be flowing a les burned mixture down his exaust which will burn in the pipes, instead of the combustion chamber where it should be...

that would be correct, my car was wideband tuned with the hondata.

ohh, and as far as spiking, i have a boost cut off.

High EGT's under normal conditions mean either too rich or too retarded ignition timing. If a/f is correct, then more timing would be needed to bring it down.

i know its a stupid question so please don't flame me if i'm way off. here goes, do you need a hondata to have it hondata tuned? i'm asking this because i noticed you can use hondata 4b's emulators to reprogram the ecu but does this require the hondata ecu to be there?

Re: how to make EGT readings lower? (VaporTrail)

I'd say advance the timing a bit, but this causes pinging to occur unless you are running slightly higher octane. I always tune rich, than watch the egt's...they are then almost always based upon timing settings.

Bingo.. Recheck your A/F tuning, then advance your timing if necessary. Generally speaking, you should try to target a 1400~1450F (@700~750C) exhaust temp at @12.0:1 A/F unless the dyno shows differently. 1500F (@800C) should be considered shutdown time. Keep in mind that the type of fuel you use can make a huge difference in how safe those numbers are.

my EGT's do stay between that range most the time. but im talking about when you get on it for many many seconds.

Re: how to make EGT readings lower? (gsR-T mode)

Simple question I have:
I am a turbo user w/o an egt gauge (soon hopefully).
Obviously people mention about different grades of gas.
Has anyone ever noticed different egt readings by using different brand gas. Say going from sunoco 93 to mobile 93. Anyone ever see a difference in the same grade but a different seller?
Hmm....makes me wonder.

What is "many many seconds"? Are you talking about minutes? If so, how many and why? I'm at a loss.

My daily driver (A fully dressed Integra GSR w/Leather, AC, 6 speaker stereo, and Power everything) will accelerate from 0~120mph in 11.8 seconds. At 145 mph (less than 8 seconds later) it begins to go airborne. The whole trip from 0mph to "lift-off" occurs in less than 20 seconds, and never exceeds 1500F exhaust temps.

Talk to me.. What exactly are you doing there?

Do not use Sinclair, Citgo, or whatever Maverick sells in your boosted Honda.

pretty much for about 1/2 a mile maybe 1 at the most. this is at FULL throttle, the temp. goes up to close to 9. obviously that is not too good, so after the first time i noticed that, i refrained from doin it.

you're at WOT and full boost for 1/2 to 1 mile?
