I picked up a turbonetics T3 turbo today for my SOHC set up, but there are no serial numbers on the turbo. How can I identify the turbo? What i do know is that it is a T3 not a T3/T4. It has a 5 bolt downpipe flange, and is external wastegate. It's in pretty good shape just needs that compressor housing.

Look for any markings on the turbo and google it...also different companies use different compressor housing backing plates. What color/design is it?? If you could post pictures, that would be the easiest way of determining what you have...

Next time you take close-up pictures, push the little flower button on your camera. You'll actually be able to see what you photograph

Anyway, that looks like the casting mark "T" that Turbonetcis uses to mark their stuff....as for specs and trim, you'd have to measure the inducer/exducer of both wheels and give us measurements...Do you have a micrometer?

It looks like a 50 trim with a jd 350 turbine wheel. That turbo combo is a good 400 whp combo. The bad thing is the parts look very bad and things are missing like the compressor nut. I would take it to a turbo shop and see what they have to say about it. Also if it is a ball bearing unit it will more than likely need to go back to Turbonetics for repair which is going to cost as much as a new one.

Long story short it don't look like you have much to work with.

there should be a 5 digit number cast into the side of the turbine inlet flange, that number will tell you what housing it is.

well it came off of a turbonetics kit, the car caught of fire and burnt off the compressor housing lol, i got it for free, im gonna look into cheapturbo.com.

ive taken the turbo as far as part as i can, and there are NO numbers? does the wheel need to be measured with a mivrometer or can it be with a tape measure?
