Hey all,

On my Time Attack car i have recently switched from an old garrett 60-1 (oil cooled) to a Borg Warner EFR 7670 (oil and water cooled).

I have taken the coolant feed from the block using a port plug with 6an takeoff, however, in your opinions, should the return go straight back in to the radiator (at the top) or round the back post thermostat? Logic would dictate the former, but i cant find a massive amount of reference material/pictures to see where others have done it.

Can anyone post anything to the contrary?

Also, as a side note, i have put a supplementary radiator post the turbo to "pre cool" the coolant that returns to the system, theory being that i can run the car harder for longer, so the coolant would go via this rad to where it rejoins the system.

I bet that will be a night and day difference. The 60-1 isn't exactly known for its spool characteristics whereas the EFR, that's its forte

ill let you know when i get it singing properly. To be honest the 60-1 served me well, so if i can gain even 500rpm on that ill be happy. I certainly sounds great spooling up though!!

Its not really critical where you plumb the water. Its use is primarily for after the engine is shutdown to prevent the bearings from soaking in all the heat. Convection currents move heat away when the engine isn't running.

But surely there are some areas you 'shouldnt' plumb back in to for sake of flow direction?

So are we saying the top of the radiator is as good a point as any?

From what I read you can just run this adapter in place of the radiator drain, then just connect your -6an retune to that. This is my plan.

I should add i have a custom rad, no drain plug, either way, putting it in to the bottom of the rad would be a bad idea surely wouldnt it? as that should be the coolest part of the rad and going against flow.

But there is no circulation (by design) through the turbo while its running. When the engine is off the water will move on its own.

Did you use the same fitting I linked in place of your drain plug? Wondering if that's the right thread 12mmx1.5 for the radiator drain?

I made my own. Took the nipple On rear of block and welded an fitting. Took coolant nipple
Off side of head welded an fitting. Ran those to and from turbo. Keeps the recirculating coolant going and works well and easy to do

Depends upon the radiator drain. I've seen 3 of the same Mishimoto radiators have 2 different sized drains. Measure your drain first before finding the fitting.

I bought the fitting from b&r to go into the front of the block(b series). its -6. than I replaced the drain on my skunk2 alpha rad with a -6 fitting. simple and direct.
