How hard to get 300 hp from single cam Vtec?
Im wondering if it is possible to get 300hp from a D-16y8 ? Ive currently got a stock motor running the greddy turbo kit and Ive got all the extra goodies to go with it. My one and only dyno run was @7psi the car made 168 whp @180ft pounds of torque. Im wana build the motor if I can get the horsepower I want other wise its gona be a turbo B-16 for me. Any replies will be thankful

I'm running the same setup as you hardware wise (Y8 w/ Greddy turbo) and I just got 193whp/177tq at the same 7psi. If I run 100 octane and bump up the boost accordingly, 300 crank hp doesn't seem unlikely, according to my tuner. Problem is--would you feel comfortable running 300hp out of a SOHC motor for very long? I sure know I wouldn't!

It's possible, anything is possible if you have the cash. You will need some serious bottom end work. I don't think the Greddy will get you there, maybe an 18g but not the 15g. With some HUGE injectors and the right standalone I think you can hit it. How long you will be there is a different story.

My little brother was probably around 220hp or so on his SOHC with stock internals and 13psi. If you built the bottom end to handle more boost I'm sure you could see 300hp. It will take some duckets though.

My little brother was probably around 220hp or so on his SOHC with stock internals and 13psi. If you built the bottom end to handle more boost I'm sure you could see 300hp. It will take some duckets though.

hell yeah it is possible!!! with just pistons and rods, i am sitting on about 270WHP...
i just sent a 97 d16y8 out to golden eagle, to be sleeved..then i know i will be easliy on the 300whp mark...i am shooting for 350whp on about 20-25psi.. with a really safe tune (thanks to hondata!!)

Im shooting for 280 to 300 whp with the "food stamp budget" bottom end. But with "beluga caviar" turbo system and fuel mgmt.
Im so anxious to have it complete that I might tap out like I always do.. Hopefully not this time.

on a d16y8 project...if it goes according to plan, I might keep on building the SOHC if not...then the spare b16 will be swapped in.

if your looking for a good deal check out the package turbopanda is selling for your motor. if i had a sohc vtec motor i think thats is the way i'd go.
