Default How do you know when the clutch is slipping at higher RPMs?

I know how it can normally feel when its slipping like when letting out from a stop, but what about at high RPM on a high HP setup? Will the RPMs spike quickly to redline? Will it feel sorta like its hitting a fuel or boost cut or have some vibration? Im getting this weird feeling at full boost/max load and Im not sure what it is. I recently had some tranny issues (whining when coasting down from high speeds) and that turned out to be mainshaft clutch housing bearing, which I replaced and the whining is gone. I went to the track immediately after putting everything back together, and everything seemed fine. Took the car out today for the first time since the track, and the clutch felt kind of strange at some stop lights(felt like sometimes I had to let the clutch out farther than normal), and also noticed a strange feeling at higher RPM/max load/max boost condition. Im on a stock ITR LSD, so Im wondering if it might be related to that as the strange "feel" seems to happen right around when the tires start to break loose or lose traction in 3rd/4th gears. Any ideas?

for me back when I was on a standard style clutch you would know it on the dyno due to instant rev limiter once boost hit..at the track you will be off limiter all the way down..lol

On a dyno you can show the gear ratio. It will be a straight line if the clutch is not slipping.

You can also plot rpm vs speed. It will be a linear line as well if the clutch is not slipping.

damn...well I dont have a dyno readily available. I went out today to try to test it again but I cant figure it out. The clutch definitely feels like its starting to slip, especially at some stop lights where I have to let the clutch out a bit farther than normal before it bites. But its very inconsistent so its hard to tell. And its not exactly smart or safe to try to test it repeatedly on the street but I did give it a few pulls.

2nd gear WOT just smokes the tires, no sign of the problem. 3rd gear is where I seem to notice it most. 3rd used to smoke the tires at full boost as well, even on drag radials, but it doesnt seem to now. Its very hard to describe the feeling and sound. It almost feels like its hitting some kind of fuel cut or boost cut, but then again it feels like its mechanical and seems to make a weird noise from the tranny side of the motor. 4th gear doesnt seem to have the problem as bad, if at all. I noticed today that my PEAK boost recently on the BC was 18.1psi, and Im only tuned for 14.5 so Im gonna have to check the settings on the BC and maybe take a couple more pulls. If its hitting the boost limit, maybe its just pulling boost and making the car feel wierd. Or maybe the BC just isnt reading correctly. If it was LSD related I would think Id feel it around turns or in 2nd gear when I lose traction.

Ive been informed by my tuner that it sounds like I may just be hitting a boost cut. Apparently he gets a lot of similar messages this time of year. I hope this is the case and plan to test it again tonight. Ill report back for anyone that gives a **** lol.
