Just installed turbo, is this Compressor Surge?
Well yesterday was the day, my turbo project finally went underway. After a long *** day i had it out, and hit only like 2psi, then adjusted BOV and hit 4, and then today after riggin up some ghetto exhuast with my 3' DP, and a light adjustment with the BOV im up around 9psi ...anyhoo we were out for a while and im experiencing this flutter when releasing the throttle, then right after theres a squeek kinda, which i know is the Greddy type s. anyway the point is is that this sound isnt all BOV...so we pulled over and my buddy with a GST said thats compressor surge and is real bad, so we loosened the BOV more and now at higher RPMs like above 4 or so there is alot less surge but lower rpms thats pretty much all i hear. and the BOV is on the lightest setting. I dunno if i should be driving it or not, cause it seems to surge way too often, is anyone else experiencing this, and how cautious should i be? thanx alot it advance.

Where is your vaccum source comming from. I had a problem with mine I hooked it up to the PCV line comming from the intake and it would flutter and surge. I then hooked it up to the FPR line and the flutter and surging went away...

mine would do that at about 4000 to 5000 rpm, so i got the golden eagle vacuum manifold and readjusted the BOV.

****, yea im sure its comin thru the intake, but now its definetly less than before, we adjusted the BOV so its the loosest setting now. but i still do get some at lower boost levels before the BOV sounds. We had the vaccuum ran to the FPR with the gauge and WG, so my bro moved it, but i wasnt out there and didnt see where he put it tho, somewhere on the left of the intake mani i think. Id run it to the brake booster but that line is huge and i dont have a T that will fit in there. anyone else get this flutter, on another kinda unrelated thread they said it was normal at low boost levels, and dangerous compressor surge occurs at high end, but i say screw that, any surge is bad, and i wanna fix this cause booooost is way too much fun. thanx guys

Good thought, in fact im going up to a shop either later this week or early next week for a tune (im terrified to blow this bitch up on a general tune on the hack) and ill have them listen to it too...i just wanna make sure nothin blows until then. Even just boosting to 6k is incredible, i cant wait to see what redline is like

I'd say check the vacuum source. When I first had mine connected wrong, there was a lot of compressor surge. Also, does the BOV have two nipples on it? Make sure the line is connected to the right one.

Yes the BOV has two nipples, and my handicapped friend told me to plug into the one that faces directly sideways on the side of the Greddy Type S. also im gonna change the vacuum on it today, then go pummel some WRXs and GS-Ts.

Re: (ChillOutWayne)
I am experiencing surge as well . . . . my bov is now on the loosest setting. WHat's funny is I hooked the bov up to the same exact spot that it was hooked up to last time, and I am getting surge this time around and not the last time around.
Weird isn't it ?

Its crazy, but i dont undestand why the damn thing wont just open more quickly, like i hear some brief flutter then its all BOV and it sounds gorgeos, but it comes right after the damn flutter...i wonder if its just the BOV
