How come my GT30R looks different than others?
Its a precision Garret GT30R, I'm guessing because it has a precision compressor housing on it?
Heres my turbo
Heres the common one i see
When i got my 30R i was kinda disappointed. The compressor housing on the common GT30Rs i see look absolutely beautiful, while i'm stuck with one that looks like any other turbo, granted... does it flow better because of the precision compressor housing?

the one on the bottom is ported shroud housing, supposely flow better than the common ones
and from first pic, im not sure if its from the angle or what, it seems that ur one has 7 blades instead of 6 blades

Looks like 7 blades to me as well. Where did you buy the turbo from, if you don't mind.

i also believe with the bottom picture the ported shroud is also anti surge </TD></TR></TABLE>
you are correct...it helps bigger turbos run low boost w/ surging as early

Got it at ben from importparts.com It was part of their custom turbine feature, and one of the options was "GT30R" turbine, is there any way i can upgrade the housing then?

Back from the dead...I am wondering about the compressor housing too. Can you purchase the upgraded housing?
To the dude above too....yeah, everyone tries to play like certain sounding items are "ricer" but I'm sorry if an exhaust sounds like ***, I dont' want it. If a blow off valve sounded like a flock of ducks, I wouldnt' want it. Sound matters for alot of sh*t. Now buying an anti surge housing to get the sound is pushing it, but it's a benefit so I'd take one.

Around 2-3% less power until you really get into the efficiency rance of the turbo. When you are in the efficiency range that's when they start making more power. On the GT35r's they kick in in the upper 500's.

Re: How come my GT30R looks different than others? (PrecisionH23a)
im confused.
The anti-surge is better for lower boost pressures, BUT when running IN the turbos effeciency range, it will HINDER performance?
So anti-surge is for the nacy's? Is this what im reading?

For a lack of better terms the anti surge cover actually "shrinks" the top end of the turbo's efficiency range. You will yield more power from the top turbo in the end, but it's good insurance to run the anti surge cover.

The GT30R is available with any number of compressor wheels (GT3071, GT3076) and compressor covers, so there will be difference in appearance. As for the ported shroud, you guys are right.

The drilled housing is the ported shroud (anti-surge) housing. It's just a different design.
