Horsepower limit of ID1000 & Walbro 450 on E85

My car has already been tuned on 93 octane and made 420whp with ID1000 injectors and a Walbro 255 HP. The shop I take my car to suggested that I try E85 for various reasons, and that I need to upgrade my fuel pump to a Walbro 450 if I choose to do so. I understand that cars running E85 use 30% more fuel, and that people generally use larger injectors or higher fuel pressure. However, I found out that the Walbro 450 isn't a high pressure pump like the 255, so I'm concerned that if I stick with the ID1000s I'll lose power on the dyno. The chart I've attached from Injector Dynamics is old and doesn't include the 450, so I don't know what to expect. Has anyone out there used this combo? Are the ID1000s enough to keep me at the same power level?

i made 434@23psi last year with a Walbro 450 and FIC 1100cc injectors. Can't remember what the duty cycle was at like 85-90%. |

Check out FIDs (Fuel injector development). I run their 2000's and am at 75%ish duty cycle at stock fuel pressure at 630whp. E85 single Walbro 450.
I maxed out my PTE1000's @ 567whp with the 450 on my old LS setup. Im sure an ID could do a little more. |

I've had ID1000's/Wally450 combo to right around 600hp on E85 a handful of times, but like LightningTeg said, it took lots of base pressure and the injectors were at 100% duty cycle.
What fuel feed/return are you using? What regulator? |

That's good to know, thanks. Feed is going to be 6an, and I assume the return will remain stock. The regulator is a version of Aeromotive A1000. I'm finding two different part numbers for the Walbro 450 after looking up "high pressure" 450. Is there a high pressure version like there is with the 255? One is Walbro 450lph F90000267, and the other is also 450, but F90000274. |

You will want the F9000267. That is the one that is e85 compatible. The 274 is for gasoline only.

Sprockets is correct.
The 274 part number is a revision of the 267. It is the ethanol compatible pump but with a higher pressure relief rating. The 274 is the one you want. |

For all those that are running E85. Besides the fuel pump and bigger injectors, do you need upgraded fuel lines as well? One of my buddies said my fuel lines will eventually get eaten up so I'd like to do it right the first time before I get a tune for E85.

I would say "need" is subjective. Myself and many others have ran e85 for years on stock fuel lines with minimal to no ill effects. I have been on e85 for 5 years now all stock lines. Only swapped fuel pump and injectors. 4 years of that was n/a last year being turboed. When the car was n/a I would get about 320 miles on 10 gallons of 93. On e85 I would get 250ish so it was actually a cost savings over 93. One thing I would be cautious about is the fuel filter. I am using an oem filter and have had no issues but I have seen others break down because of the fuel.

Im still on the stock lines from tank. Replaced everything in the bay though. Been that way for 5 years now

502 ltr/hr @ 50 psi, 6.84 amp draw @ 13.5 vdc
431 ltr/hr @100 psi, 11.92 amp draw @ 13.5 vdc How many people would be interested in these flow rates. New pump coming out !!!! Take a look at 50 psi and the amp draw v the Walbro Take a look at 100 psi compared to the Walbro, the amp draw is a killer. |
