Default is hondata's statement correct about DSM injectors???

a post today got me worried quite fast when someone posted a link to the hondata message board concerning DSM injectors:

http://hondata.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=432

DSM 450cc injectors will not work with the Honda ECU - the electrical characteristics of the injector are not suited to the ECU, resistor box or no resistor box.

If you use DSM 450cc injectors you will find the engine difficult to start, and the engine running lean at part thottle, plus tuning is very difficult.
how true is this? does anyone have an explanation of why this is? i'm about to setup my smc and 450cc dsm's and i dont want to have problems.

Strange considering the large use of 450CC DSM injectors on a lot of budget turbo honda's... Well we'll see what the turbo guru's have to say.

ummmmm........ they work great for a while until my car start to run shitty. Don't think it was a faulty injector though. Got to test injectors. NO TIME !!

****!!!! I've been reading around about this as well! I just don't get it. Why all of the sudden these supposedly won't work properly doesn't make any sense. I already bought my cleaned DSMs and a resistor box, then they come out with this statement. I'm almost tempted to get some 550s and sell the 450s, but tons of people have used the DSMs with success. This is a very important thread! I hope Hondata will post and shed some more light on this!

ok kids lets remember what injectors are...they're solenoids. aka a coil of wire. with a slug of magnetic material (metal? i dont know) that moves when you pass a current through them.

so um. theres only so many things you can change about a coil of wire that would make it "bad" for our ecus. all you can change is the number of turns of the coil of the solenoid and the gauge of the wire. i guess the mechanical part of the solenoid that opens and closes the injector could affect the impedance, or resistance differently than other injectors....wierd though...

I hope Doug can chime in here and share with us what he knows about DSM injectors, cause i'd like to know what the deal is.

or we can take an old dead DSM injector and an old dead Honda injectors and cut them up and see what is different and try to figure out how that affects the electrical characteristics....i am too lazy for that though.

yeah, and it's totally impossible that they're trying to sell the injectors they carry by claiming the DSM's are not suitable.

yes, the dsm's are peak and hold, and most honda injectors are saturated, but with proper tuning either will work just fine. we used P&H injectors with a saturated map on our FSAE car and they worked just fine up to 15,500rpm. i'm not going to worry about it. and i'm not gonna buy anything from hondata..

I think someone needs to measure the voltage and flow of the dsm's on an eclipse, then do the same with stock honda injectors on a honda. Oh and reistance too

You deserve a break after solving the boost creep problem, besides you have better things to do considering you're in Iraq.

This issue is pretty old and many threads have been started on the subject, unfortunately the archive is unavailable, otherwise I would give you a link to what the real deal was. Basically there was some 450's that have some really funky impedence but they were "rare" is what was explained.

Impedance can be adjusted.

ECU drivers are just transistors, which pass not so much voltage as current.

I don't have and specs on voltage drop or amperage passing through stock injectors versus DSM 450cc's, but I have sets of both to test, probably monday-tuesday on my days off. If this is some scheme to sell RC injectors, I'm making the biggest stink ever.

if lots of people use them i dont see a problem. Is the problem we have with DSM injectors that they are too low of an impedance compared to the stock ones causing the transistors to supply too much current and burning them out?

damn i'm about to get dsm 450cc injectors for my ride and use the vafc hack..hope this is not some marketing ploy to sell rc injectors. the thread's locked so i can't ask questions as to what the problems may be.

if it's a problem with the impedence then a resistor box from a honda should be able to make it work properly.

anyone having problem at part throttle with those injectors?

That is not an accurate statement. Someone somewhere got some bad injectors that they said were "DSM" that were most likely not.
