hondata??? why?
 

okay, i have this question. i was just thinking about the hondata system. okay, i am planning to tune it myself, but i was thinking, i am buying the programmer, the rom editor, and the datalogger, why do i need to even buy the hondata??? i will basically be building my own chip, right, so why do i have to pay 400 bucks for a hondata chip? can anybody shed the light on what the hondata is actually for?

If you use the honda rom editor you have to have the blue box hooked up to the ecu in order for the chip to work.....I think.

Hondata is a box that connects to your ecu, not just a chip. It's what allows you to control your ecu.

For the money it costs to buy a hondata sytem that you tune yourself I would look into other engine managment systems.

I would only consider other engine management setups if you don't plan on driving the car on the street. The advantage of using hondata is that you can keep all the pre-programmed fuel maps from honda, but then you can add boost maps and other high performance things. So you have a car that works well on the street and the street.

I dont agree. Have you ever downloaded other systems and played with them......much easier then fussing with chips and whatnot.

I havent seen anything in the market for the same price thats a good competitor. An aem ems goes for almost 3 times as much. It all depends on your setup really. Mild to wild im going with a basic setup so im going hondata because its been proven to work and I have Tony1 10 minutes away to tune https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif .

Yes...I have. Have you played with the Haltech software? Got DOS? I love DOS, but 99% of the people out there do not. I know you're an avid EMS user, but c'mon...you're telling me that it is user friendly? There's almost 20 parameters alone to set the idle!

The chips/programmer/emulator are a pain in the ass. I'm not gonna argue that point. However, for a street car and for overall ease of use of the tuning software, Hondata is still king...even if somewhat limited compared to other systems.

I plan on using the E6K on my next project car (a turbo convertible https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emwink.gif) simply because I can't use Hondata. For Hondas though, I'll stick to Hondata. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Dan's a Hondata hater, just take his comments with a grain of salt.

Out of all the systems I've tuned (and I've tuned a lot of PEM systems), Hondata is by far the easiest to set up and tune. The chips are a pain, whoopdeedoo, I'll take the trade off between that and it's well written software and uncomparable tech support.

Damn, even when Im not trying to hate it seems like I am....wtf, lol. I really need to stop opening the "hondata" threads.

Actually, I just re-read his post. He isnt asking if hondata is right for him, he is asking what the functionality of the blue box is and if he can get around it by using the software with a romulator and burner.
