Default Hondata setup spitting out Raw fuel???!!!

I didn't really think this would happen if the hondata was setup for 450cc injectors.....

Yep, that fuel out the tailpipe.

It must be running WAY rich. I can increase the rpms if I push the pedal down slowly, but if I rapidly push on the pedal, it misses, and makes wierd noises, and the rpms don't go up.

As the car warms up, the idle speed does go down to the proper point, but it still seems to run rough. I still get the throttle hesitation when warmed up too. If hondata didn't set it up for 450cc injectors it probably wouldn't run at all, right?

My fuel pressure is set at around 35psi at idle......I don't think I would want to increase that as I will be getting even more fuel then.

Help MUCH APPRECIATED..sorry for all the questions lately, but I have lots of them, with no local support.

Did you uhm.. get the car tuned? heh.

The base maps do not work all that well... My car would barely start with them.

Well....I drove my car, and it died. I pulled the injectors and they were fouled. Got them sandblasted, reinstalled plugs, and drove home which wasn't more then 2 min away. Car died in driveway. Pulled plugs, fouled again. Here is what they look like after 2 min of driving.

Hondata is really pissing me off, I wonder if they even burned the right chip for me? They did lose the paperwork I sent to them, and I called 4 times, each time they said they would get the ECU out right away. Each call was about a week apart. All in all It took five weeks to get my ECU, and when I got it I opened it up, and the rom chip wasn't inserted...it was just bouncing around in the ECU!

How am I supposed to drive 300 miles to my tuner like this? There are three things I think could be going wrong.

1. Hondata didn't setup ECU for 450cc injectors.
2. I wired the injectors backwards?? Is this possible?
3. Base maps are just THIS bad?

dude,
don't even think for a minute that those base maps are gonna work well. They are very temporary. you need to tune the car.

sorry, but thats the truth!

This is true, but my closest hondata tuner is in michigan! (BTW, turbo is not installed, and I am not boosting or anything) I may be stuck installing the turbo, and driving all that way with my stock ecu and injectors. That may be hard though...cuz if I am going freeway speeds, the turbo should be ready to spool even in 5th gear.

Anyone know how much it would cost to get my car flatbeded 330 miles?

yes, you are running WAY to rich! my advice is.... take off the hondata, set up a dyno tuning appointment and install the hondata at the dyno tuning shop. did you get the pocket programmer with the unit so you can at least make some changes to the maps?

Yep...looks like I am going to have to do that. Does anyone think it will be possible for me to drive a long distance without boosting?

you can boost for a long distance no problem, just dont get on it, try to keep it under 3500 rpms. why do you not want to boost? just turn the screw down on the wastegate to reduce the amount of boost youll produce to be safe.

I don't think I will want to boost on a stock fuel system, and no FMU. That would be bad. I am just thinking about trailering my car to the tuner. It will be more expensive but will yield less problems.

for 400 you could upgrade to 4b and do the tuning yourself.

There aren't any 4b users close by to you either I guess?

I would advise that you get it street tuned rather than dyno tuned.

From all the posts, it seems like street tuning with a wideband o2 sensor is best, especially for part throttle fuel maps, which you are using most of the time anyhow.

If the dyno tuner doesn't get it quite right or if you need to make more changes, that's another 300 mile drive. Sounds like your best option could be to get the DIY o2 sensor and upgrade to 4b. I always liked being able to do something myself instead of relying on someone else. Not to mention paying them...

First of all apologies. This computer sat around for longer than it should. That is partly my fault and partly that the email sent to your hotmail account was not recieved. The email we sent mentioned that we had lost your installation instructions. Somehow this was not communicated when you spoke with our staff last week. As a result your ECU was probably sent out with a stock program.

A stock program will start and run 450 injectors, but will foul them rapidly - as you have found out.

I would also like to point out that due to the delay, Hondata did not charge you for the boost upgrade, nor for the overnight Saturday delivery.

Contact me tomorrow and I will write a program for you

Doug
