Are most people doing hondata doing it mainly for reliablility, or also for smoothness and power? From what I've heard it makes the car ride much smoother and like stock as well as let you tune for optimum power (substaintial gains). Is this all true?

1st off it makes tuning alot easier
second yes it will alow you to optimize the fullest potential of your set up as long as a good tuner is working with it .
afc hack and the smc might work very good, but im sure they have their downpoints whrere they just have limits.
my vafc when i ran n/a it wouldnt let me richen it up neough before vtec. it was maxed out and still a little leaner than we liked, but thats the thing with them , they will do a good job , but have morelimits than a true fuel management like honata and aem , and all them

if anything hondata free'd up power. I hated being limited to 8psi by the FMU, hondata just allowed me to put my turbo to better use. On top of that now I have safer fuel and timing maps and as a bonus 50 more hp. while still retaining all the drivability i had before. plus i got to raise my rev limit, i got a shift light, and if i spent the extra money i could have cool data logging and a 2step rev limiter. but like said above having a good tuner is most important for bringing the potential out of the hondata and your car.
