That would more than likely be a 15 pin VGA monitor cable.
If it is a laptop that has been built recently, chances are that you are going to need a USB->Serial adapter.
The one I use on my mac and have used on a few PC's is made by Keyspan. It's a nice piece and works well.

No. If all you have is an USB on your laptop, then you can get a usb to serial converter from Belkin.
I have a couple extra ones if you need one. I bought a PC card that converts to 2 serial ports.

I tried using the Belkin Serial to USB adapter, and for the datalogging option, it was VERY spuratic at best, because there were only 3 pins instead of 9 being locked in. My Hondata tuner had the same problem. He could tune and program w/o a problem, but couldn't datalog without it locking up. I just switched laptops with my wife instead. She had a true 9 pin serial

Re: (TheShodan)
found this on an old post:
Call hondata, ask for Sandra, she will ask you to send her an email requesting another cable and they send it free of charge
I think her email was accounts@hondata.com, but call her to double check.
I did not write this, just found it searching......

According to Hondata, they recommend the Keyspan USB--->Serial adapter if youre using an adapter vs running the serial cable.
Neither works for me, so who knows?!

Re: (Rory Breaker)
I use two of the keyspan USB-Serial adapters with my laptop, they work perfectly, I have been tuning and datalogging with these for a few years now..
