Default honda civic d17a2 turbo

Hello everyone, this is probably one of the most commonly asked question, but is turbo charging the d17 worth it? I know that these motors are absolutely money buckets, but what if im looking to get maybe a 40 horse power gain? just something to mess around with. Everyone says save up for money on a good kit, which run 2- 5 k. and that's not in my price range at all. so what about ebay kits? i know there shitty. but would it serve the purpose i want it to? low boost, mild horse power gains. and if so. what would i have to do for an ecu? im not really only a budget, but i dont want to throw 5k into a 02 civic 3x with 130k miles on it. any help would be much appreciated

Define "worth it". And for a measly 40 hp you might as well just leave it alone. That you're even considering an Ebay kit tells me you aren't remotely serious. If you're not willing to spend the cash then move on.

by worth it i meant is there any point, and you basicly answered my question. if i'm not willing to get serious then why spend the money on a piece of crap.

so i'm assuming getting the crower stage 1 cam, air intake, and exhaust would also be a pointless upgrade? or would it be best to just save the money, until i buy a new car

This is my first car, i'm not looking to "go fast". I just want alittle more horse power. i don't want to race, or anything like that. I want to learn more about cars. im not looking to gain 100 hp. i want to be at least at 160. and leave it at that. but thank you for your help

What does 160 get you? Just trying to figure out where people get their horsepower figures from.

And you're looking for 160 to the wheels?

Default d17a2 Turbo

So I'm not hear to listen to everyone say do a k swap, instead of going turbo on the d17 they make no power. yes i now there not the motor to go with when making 250+ horsepower,But I'm ready to do a really Greddy turbo kit. and have it professionally installed by a local shop. Now does any know what the limits of the motor are. what is a safe amount of psi to run? I'm not looking to get 250 horsepower. Just want something to work with for now. get into the whole turbo scene before i end up making a 400+ car. I'm starting of small and working up. Any real help would be great, thanks!

Swap in a k, get serious about turbo...both of which are gonna cost you quite a bit

The other option is for ~ $400 you can pick up a nos brand sniper kit brand new and safely toss a 50wet shot at it. Around here a 10lbs bottle costs about $80 to fill and depending on use it lasts a while

Ive fiddled with em and they are made for efficiency. Rods are flimsy and the IM/head is crap. Get a K swap and call it a day.

I had Crower make me a cam, had a LS throttle and intake manifold welded to the D17 intake flange, ported head, header......... still felt like a cow compared to today's standards. Aside that u cant tune the ECU without making it fully programmable. Soo after spending money u would get about 130 whp with a few thouasand $$$.... screw that... K series or nothing.

Turbo wont do justice for the money.... $2.5-5k for 160whp sounds like **** to me.

Turbo D17 would be cool but sounds like it might be a expensive undertaking
