Default Honda ATV Turbo...can it be submerged?

IM exploring the idea of a turbo on my atv, only problem I see is this thing spends a lot of time underwater.....can a turbo deal with that kind of punishment?

Some can, but they are made specifically for marine applications. I would not want to let the compressure suction be underwater.........that would be bad.

if everything was properly sealed and you had a snorkel on it than it might be able to take it.......

sealing and snorkel is not a problem. im worried about the metals when they go from being hot on dry land then being totally submerged in water. Will the rapid cool down hurt it?

JET SKI TURBO they are made for that and alot of the 1200 cc jetskis use the turbos they are small and durable perfect for a atv.. kinda costly though

Depends on how hot it is when it gets submerged. Headers run about the same temps as a turbo under low load, but high load you're probably at a few hundred F higher surface temps. My guess is the marine versions use high chromuim content (or another element) to make it very resilient, to keep it from cracking when the temp changes quickly.

Its really the rapid temp change that could cause damage. Turbos don't have issues if they are ran cold. The turbine shaft will always be heated, which is the main component that would alter clearances.

all those marine turbos dont go threw such drastic changes like HE wants to do.

Jetskis are always in water.

yeah I need something that will be ok to be totally in the dry, then instantly totally submerged. Is there a small turbo that can handle that??

i would say the only thing thats a probleme is warping the housings, b/c the center shaft will stay hot.

So a small thick compressor housing and maybe someheat wrap to slow the rate of temp change during submersion?
