home depot couplers?
 

i saw some couplers at home depot and i was wondering if these are reliable enough for charge piping? are any of u guys using these? thanks

You know I saw those there too and they are pretty damn cheap. I think I may buy some and try it out if no one comes up with an answer soon.

I used them on my t25 setup and they work great.. only thing is when you go to buy them, they are actually 1/4 inch bigger than the size listed.. So if it was listed as 1 1/2 it is actually 1 3/4 inside diameter.. they stretch easy also... Hope that helps....

they will work in a pinch......if you have alot of movement they will rip....there is no reinforcement in the material.

Are they even silicone?They look like hard plastic...

Yeah they work fine... until you crank the boost past about 7 pounds. I've had at least 4 or 5 rip on me. At 10 pounds, I found I needed to tighten them so much that the clamp ripped into the material. Its a hard rubber material but it gets pretty soft and pliable after it warms up. So as long as you stay in the 5-7 pound range you should be fine. Your milage may vary.

Ive used them. The 90 degree ones suck--fitment for 2.25 piping isnt the best. Ive also ruptured at least 4 of them. Also one has actually melted over time since it was soming off the compressor.
The striaght couplers are ok. They are a little thing though.

I would just spend the money on real ones. All the times I spent at the track in the pits putting them back on after they blew off the piping isnt worth it. I actually lost a couple events cause I was in the pits "fixing" them.

Haha, thats kinda like what my 90's came out to look like.....but yours looks like a damn torpedo ripped through it. The 90's only had a small hole maybe a little larger then a quarter size, but all shredded out like that too.

they are ok ,but if youre going so cheap, just get radiator hose from napa, you can buy like 2ft sections of silicone hose on ebay for liek 25$ too

don't run em if you plan on making big boost. im shocked some of you guys got so much time on them. i bought a 90 degree as an emergency, and i blew the first run. they seem to get real weak when they heat up. i think if you wrapped it with duct tape they'd hold up pretty good tho. i can't even recommend the black rubber couplers from turbonetics. they don't last very long either. on the dyno, they swell and contract like ballons.

Shoot. it's 2 dollars an inch for the premium stuff, plus 3-5 bucks for each clamp.

I used them on my '91 TSI AWD over this last drag season. I was running 8.5 and faster 1/8 miles with these couplings. i probably replaced 4 of them all of last season.

I've seen the rubber ones with a thin metal/tin shell on the outside. they are a little more pricey though, so prob just as well to get the real silicone ones.

BTW guy's where I live there are few performance shops around, plus there prices are wack.

I find alot of parts at 18-wheel truck supply stores, especially silicon hosing and 3" mandrel bends.
