Re: Holset HX40w with 19cm housing
Im also researching the Holset's for use on our Honda's
From my research the 19cm^2 housing is WAY too BIG
It is probably equivalent to something like a 1.22 Garrett T4
The 16 cm^2 is close to a 1.00 Garrett so you can judge from that
I would say try to find a 14cm^2 HX40 T3 divided housing (they scarce but do exist) and use a proper split pulse divided turbo manifold.
Otherwise you can get a BEP T3 0.70 turbine housing from The Turbo Trader or other vendors that fit the HX40
Also is the HX40 you wanting to use a 8, 7 or 6 blade compressor ???
Honestly the 7 blade 56mm inducer HX35 with the smaller 12cm^2 T3 divided housing would be better for your B18B non Vtec.

im running an 18.5cm housing H1c holset on my stock b18b1 and it spools 14psi at 5k rpm. its a divided housing and im running a crappy ebay cast manifold.

Re: Holset HX40w with 19cm housing
Just remember the H1C is not comparable to the HX40 - it is comparable to one of the HX35's , which means it has the smaller Turbine wheel ! - thus it will spool faster than the HX40 with a 19cm^2 housing !!
The HX40 has a larger turbine wheel so it will spool slower - minimum size I think you should consider is the 16cm^2 , but I think it will still be laggy without the VTEC head's flow !!

Re: Holset HX40w with 19cm housing
The others are all T3 - based in size comparisons done by the DSM guys, the 19cm^2 is much bigger than the 16 cm^2
The H1C and H1E Holsets are a bit mismatched for our engines, they have compressor wheels comaparable to the smaller and lower flowing versions of the HX35 and HX40 respectively , but with bigger turbine housings.
The HX series is better suited
The HX35 and HX40 14,16 cm^2 are T3 divided, there are some T4 housing but they're very big
SwappedTurboEgg had a 16cm^2 HX40 on a GSR (not sure if it was a divided manifold) and saw 22 psi @ 5500rpm IIRC from talking to him. Hope that gives you some indication

What about not worring about spool which one can make more power. Im looking into a h1c. For my gsr it will only be for track use so spool isnt a big issue. Will an hx still be better.
